Birthmarks: Hide them or Not?
I have a single, significantly sized birthmark: a quarter-sized, medium brown spot on my caramel-colored skin, situated below the navel. When I was younger I used to be somewhat embarrassed by it.
I say 'somewhat' because I didn't have any reason to show my stomach at that age--I wasn't allowed to wear bikinis. But whenever I did see it, I wished it wasn't there. My mom would joke sometimes and say that it was a grape juice stain (despite the fact that it's not even purple).
I think having this birthmark contributes to my sense of modesty. Not to say that there's anything wrong with having a birthmark (except for in the modeling world, perhaps), but even at the age of 20 I still don't wear bikinis. It's not just because I don't want anyone to see my little "grape juice stain," but also because I don't feel comfortable showing too much skin in public, even if it's at the beach. I also think that one-piece swimsuits have the potential to look extra stylish; that is, as long as they're not the tropical flower-patterned suits that grandma wears to collect seashells on the shore.
My birthmark isn't something I think about daily, and it's not like I couldn't undress in a room full of girls because of it. If anything, it seems like something that a lot of people would consider "cute" if they saw it...though I can probably guess that they'd rather not have one themselves.
Do you have any birthmarks? If so, do you hide them/feel self-conscious about them?

I have a mole that is in the same spot as marilyn monroes mole was ;) and a crooked toe.
I have a large, pale mole/freckle on the bottom of a toe on my left foot. And I have two pencil-eraser sized dark freckle/moles on my left shoulder blade. Two freckles on my lips (one on the top, one of the edge of the bottom). Haha they're not really noticeable so no, I don't hide them
I love that Heart-kun puppy so much.
I have a freckle under my left eye, one on my waist, one on my left lower arm, and a bunch of scars from popping boils that I didn't know were boils when I was younger. I try to hide the latter, since that was kind of (really) my fault, but the rest - they're just freckles, I survive fine without hiding them.
i love mineee:)!
Flaunt it if you got it! I'm getting a big birthmark tattoo on my face.
I have a birthmark on my thigh that's shaped like a foot D:
How exactly are we supposed to judge whether you should be embarrassed by it... you left no pictures!!! In all seriousness though, I can understand your self-consciousness.
Awwww, that puppy is sho cute =]
I have this birthmark on my upper left leg, its not that noticeable unless you see me naked LOL.
I have little (almost unnoticeable) birthmarks scattered across my body. A few on my back, one of my wrist, one on my index finger, and one on my right calf.
I have one dark brown birthmark on my left arm, about a thumb's size, since my skin is pretty tan it's not that noticeable, unless you're really close. Have I ever hated it? Yes, do I hate it anymore? No, it's just a part of my body, I always tell myself at least if someday I have accident and my relatives need to identify me they could.
It would be bad if I was self conscious about my birth marks..I have about 500 of them. No, really. I have about 10 on my face, some on my neck, a few on my ears, 40 on each of my arms, a bunch on my stomach, about 10 on each leg, I probably have some on my back I've never noticed...I don't really even think about them much unless someone points them out. They're all pretty tiny, except for one on my neck and one on my thigh.
I have a birthmark on my right arm and it looks like an upside down foot. Like one of those finger paintings of foot where you use the side of a fist to make the sole and finger tips to make the toes. It's not like huge, it's about the size of a penny. It doesn't really bother me and no one really teased me about it. Though, I am the only one in the family that has a birthmark overall which is a tad odd to me. Shrugs :3
I have a bunch. I used to be bothered by them, but now I could care less.
@spidergrass@xanga - that sounds like my birth marks, but some of mine faded after I had my son. It was odd, I thought I would be happy, but I kind of miss them. I grew up with them.
I do - I have a port-wine stain colored birthmark on my left hand in the shape of florida. It's a fairly small version of the state, but it's there and I don't really like it. I'll never be able to be a hand model. "( But seriously, everyone always thinks it's a dash of marker on my hand and people always think I'm lying when I say that it's not, but whatever...it makes me unique... And having a perfect map of the gator state *even though I'm on the polar end of the spectrum* can become handy...I think. lol
i have coffee-mate colored skin. I'm hispanic, Costa Rican to be exact, and we tend to have a surplus of birthmarks. i have atleast five sand-grain sized lightbrown to dark chocolate colored birthmarks.
I have one on the tip of my nose. :)
Its annoying, and most pf the time I wish it wasnt there.
But my friends and family still love me, and thats all that matters isnt it?
Also have one slightly bigger about a centimeter from the right side corner of my lip, on the very lining of my lip, between my nose and right corner of my lip. :)
No birthmarks for me... my sister has one, though. She's not bothered by it.
I have one on my shoulder. It looks like a bruise, kinda bluish, but it never bothered me. To irritate me, my brother would sometimes press against it and ask, "Does it hurt?" Well yeah, now you`re basically pinching me.
I think acne is worse. Some people phase out of it; some people struggle with it through their thirties. They hurt, they grow in new places, they look bad, and they are noticible, since it`s on the face, chest, back, and sometimes even the upper arms.
i have a birthmark on the back of my left thigh. like at the spot where the thigh meets the butt. i used to be embarrassed when i'd go swimming, but i don't care anymore. haha
I love my birthmark because, since it's on my mid-calf, I can easily cover it up or show it off, whichever I feel like. It's light brown and shaped like a leaf, and to be honest, I never dress with it in mind. Most of the time I forget it's there.
i just have to say...that's an ADORABLE doggy picture! :D
i have a LARGE one on the side of my leg. I would never want to wear shorts, bathing suits, capris. It starts on my knee and down to my feet. It looks like i was a burnt victim. the leg looks discolored so i look like a cow with dark and light skin color on the side of the leg. I was SOOO self conscious, but now I am starting to learn to embrace it. This is the first year i wore shorts to school and to places. i get stares, but no one really said anything or treat me different..
i have one on my hip. when people saw it, they thought it was a scar from a tattoo XD
you shouldnt feel self conscious about your birth mark.
no one is gonna laugh at you because they should understand. i mean like, if you saw someone have one, you wouldnt laugh at them because you understand what it is..and laughing about it has no benefits
i have a birth mark on the back of my right calf. it doesn't bother me.
my best friends dad has the same birth mark. on the same leg.
and my best friend has the same birth mark as my older sister.
WEIRD.
i like my birth mark, always have and always will.
I have a quarter sized round birthmark on my right hip and I like it being there. Any man I have dated finds it sexy and so does the hubby I have now.
... I was never self-conscious of my birthmarks... they're me. a lot of people point out the one on my arm and ask about it, thinking it's a bruise or something, I just tell 'em it's my birthmark. it hasn't inhibited me from anything thus far, and I don't think it ever will.
