  • Women Who Smoke: What's Your Opinion?

I generally disapprove of smoking.  It does nothing good, it's annoying to smell other people smoke, and it kills people. What I want to know is how you feel about women who smoke?

I'm particular with this because I've heard opposing opinions about it.  Some say they find women who smoke as "cool", some even say it's sophisticated.  I don't agree, but I do respect them.  I've heard others say it turns them off when they learn that a lady smokes.  Women should be prim and proper. Just as alcohol is a vice, women should turn away from this deadly vice as well.

What's your take on this issue? How do you find women in general who smoke?

I don't really see how smoking can be considered cool or sophisticated.

I smoke, but just because it's something to do.

  • CMAC14@xanga

I don't like when anyone smokes.

  • poshymeg@xanga

nuh-uh...i don't smoke! blech! i hate it..my mom died bcoz of that damned stick of shit..she got overly addicted and got really sick...i don't see any good at it as well.. i mean, what good does it do for you?..IMO, either you're a girl or a boy...no one should smoke this kind of SLOW KILLER...

  • Darkness_Advocate@xanga

I see it this way...if you choose to smoke(male or female) thats your decision...its not like anyone held you at gunpoint and said smoke or die. I do smoke and to be honest,I wish I never picked up the habit..its expensive, but to each their own right? No need in changing ideals of anyone but I'll tell you this, that doesn't change my opinion of anyone no matter what

@gottalovebeauty@xanga - So if you're so offended by people that light up around you, why even put yourself in that kind of situation? Either don't smoke, choose to sit in the non-smoking section, and don't let your friends hot-box your car. Because honestly, depending on the state, the places where smokers are actually allowed to smoke are very, very, hard to find. Never in or within fifteen feet of a public building, only in very few resturants, and parking lots. So unless this post is aiming for the total criminalization of tobacco instead of what a female should or shouldn't do, get over it.

i think it makes people look trashy, and smell old and dirty.
i used to smoke, and one of my friends told me i looked ugly when i did it.
    they were right.

thank god i was able to quit. it MAY look cool at first. but it aint cool no more once u find it a chore to buy cigs ;  how dodgy you tend to get towards guys because of how ur breath smell.
its not a fashion accessory which some may call it.
i would say its more to a factor of one's lifestyle .

  • uhitsemily@xanga

Ugh, its not only woman its men too!
Everytime I see a smoker in a car i crack the window open and scream SMOKE KILLS!
When I walk past a person on the street that's smoking, i purposely cough really loud and scream WHATS IN THAT THING? Hoping to make them curious, look it up, and be disgusted! Just like me! THE ARE OVER 3000 POISONS IN CIGARETTES! Get a NEW hobby.

So, why should it be any different for a woman to smoke than for a man? Women have fought for equality, equality, equality. Women want men to see them as no different, but when a woman does something that a man does, then people frak out.

  • shaunachiang@xanga

it's bad for her body and her youth'll diminish much faster than if she didn'tsmoke. i dont know why a woman wouldd smoke it's so bad for the way she looks and her health

  • Alyxandri@xanga

I don't think I would judge someone based on that - male or female.

i think it is extremely UNSEX for women to smoke.. infact for men also.

In fact I find it really annoying. At my townhome I can't open any of the front windows due to smokers. I don't care what people chose to do, but if it affects myself or my family, i do. I'm tired of walking through other people's smoke to get into stores, or having to roll up my window in my car on a beautiful day because i'm stuck at a red light behind/next to a person who is smoking. OH! another big thing I hate about smoking.. Is where I use to work, the employees thought they were entitled to have "smoke breaks" on top of their regular breaks.
BUT the biggest thing I hate about smoking... .Is when I see someone who has a newborn infant (or is pregnant) smoking as they talk and play with them.

If you can't tell I'm against smoking. I think those who chose to do so, should show some respect to the people who don't. I chose not to smoke, and I would really love it if I didn't get any second hand smoke either!!

  • silverscream@xanga

women who smoke, men who smoke= same thing to me. i don't like smoking, i think it's gross but i won't write someone off cuz they do it. it's just something some people do and as long as it isn't affecting my health, then whatever

  • my_secret_diary_xx@xanga

    i think smoking is disgusting.
and whats sad is that alot of girls do it to lose weight.

  • KiyomiTsuki@xanga

I was in China last year with some guy friends, and when I lit up they all had this expression on their face like 'WHAT!?' as if a girl couldn't smoke or something, haha.. and started to question if I was having 'women cigarettes' and that i'm a female, so therefore should not smoke so much, It felt a little sexist.. I also didn't have a clue what they meant by women cigarettes I just kept saying 'MARLBORO,!!'

  • shy_and_sad@xanga

Why would women smoking be any different from men smoking? Wow that's sexist. I'm running off to check my calendar to see if this is still the 21st Century.

I find smoking obnoxious, and I don't apply sexist distinctions to the smokers. As for alcohol, to each his own, regardless of gender.

Smoking should never be a factor whether you choose to respect or not respect a person.  Smoking is something the SMOKER chooses and decides upon, it is not up for discussion by some igorant passerby.  If you say something like you don't respect someone who smokes, well then congratulations, you're disrespecting a little less than half the US and most European countries.  More specifically, you're disrespecting almost every celebrity.  No, I'm not talking about the slutty ones like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, what about the "good girls" like Brittany Snow.  Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp used to smoke, did you disrespect them five years ago?  I'm not even going to go into the fashion world because almost everyone smokes there.  Anyways, my point is, it is by far the most ignorant thing anyone could say.  I used to be a smoker, and I could sense those goody-goody's disrespectful attitude about my habit.  All I have to say is get over it.  Just like you choose your friends, choose what you like, etc., other people CHOOSE to smoke.  Oh, and about the whole "it endangers me" if someone else smokes.  Well then, I suggest you never go to bars, clubs, or parties if your past the age of 15 because... there might be smokers.  Shock, horror, right?  Basically, to all of you who say you're irritated by smokers or are those extremist goody-goody's who say you lose respect for them, next time I see you I'll blow some smoke in your face, idiot.

i used to smoke socially, but not so much anymore. I dont really like the after smell of it and its so expensive now. My mom has been smoking for 35 years now. She started whenever she was 16. She cant even laugh for a long period of time without coughing.

  • polkadotted718@xanga

I smoke and I don't see why it's that big of a problem. If I'm not smoking around little kids and throwing my cigarette butts everywhere, why don't you BUTT OUT? It's not a crime to smoke cigarettes. They may be unhealthy, yes, but without that little stress reliever, who knows? If you find yourself in a stressful situation and then smoke a cigarette, your mentality is instantly calmer and it's easier to think things through, which I'd consider good.

  • vanabans@xanga

Getting cancer and being unhealthy is not sophisticated. Men too,  i find its less atractive in a man if he smoks.
