Women Who Smoke: What's Your Opinion?
I generally disapprove of smoking. It does nothing good, it's annoying to smell other people smoke, and it kills people. What I want to know is how you feel about women who smoke?I'm particular with this because I've heard opposing opinions about it. Some say they find women who smoke as "cool", some even say it's sophisticated. I don't agree, but I do respect them. I've heard others say it turns them off when they learn that a lady smokes. Women should be prim and proper. Just as alcohol is a vice, women should turn away from this deadly vice as well.
What's your take on this issue? How do you find women in general who smoke?

If you smoke (this goes for males or females), I wouldn't have the same respect for you as I would if you didn't.
I don't find it cool or sophisticated, but I don't find it disgusting or uncool either.
I guess my opinion on it is pretty neutral.
Yep, I agree with the two above me on this one.
I smoke not because it makes me "cool" but because it's one of my addictions. Also if someone finds it less than appealing, I seriously could care less. I am what I am, if someone has a problem with that, I am not going to change just so they like me more. If I quit (which I should) I will do it for myself.
I've always women smoking an attractive thing. I don't smoke, but I see the glamour in it...

Yeah. I mean, I don't like it, but I can definitely see why some people might think it's sexy.
I've never kissed a smoker, but I don't think it'd be pleasant.
I, also, see it as a glamorous thing. It's not something that I'd do if I didn't find it attractive on other women.
I can understand the glamour of it, but I would never smoke. It's only even half-attractive when you're still young, before you start hacking up a lung and your mouth is messed up.
smoking is bad for our health. not just for women, but for men as well. im a woman and i smoke and i dont give a shit/. im thinking of quiting soon, but not because im a woman, its bcoz i know its not good for my health.

Women who smoke are the same as men who smoke.
Smoking is gross, bad for your health, and doesn't make you any more attractive in the long run.

i used to smoke, and i loved it. but i quit. i don't advocate young women start. the addiction is terrible. i quit because i didn't want anything to have power or control over me. but is was fun at the time. one time, i was somewhere smoking, and this lady came up to me and said, "you're too young and pretty to destroy yoursefl like that." it didn't make me quit. i didn't think i was pretty or worth saving at the time. but i have a kid now. i have something or someone i need to stay healthy for. my advice: don't ever EVER start smoking. PLEASE!!!!!!!!
my best friend smokes, and i love her all the same. as for myself though...i'd rather go with the "prim and proper" effect...and the not dying effect...and not smoke :)
Oh wow. I'm surprised that so many people think smoking is glamorous or sexy. I smoke, and I hate it. I think it makes me look trashy. I've been trying to quit, but I haven't been successful.Â

I smoke cloves when I drink, generally only if other people are smoking or it's been a particularly stressful week. I definitely buy into the glamor of smoking (seriously, young Lauren Bacall!). And even though I know it's a terrible, disgusting vice that will probably contribute to my death, it still has glamor appeal!
Now, what about men? If a man smokes does that put you off?
it doesnt bother me that women smoke..
but it bothers me how women are supposedly the ones that cares for themselves for than men, in terms of skin care, fashion etc.
so the effects of smoking are not only bad for the lungs, but the aging of the skin, gum disease and the discoloration of the fingernails...
i think it looks nasty..
but, hey, if they wanna smoke, leave them to it :) they will always have support :)
I think smoking is gross because the smell makes me sick to my stomach. I don't really care who smokes, male or female or why they do so. So long as it's not around me, I'm willing to get along with anyone regardless of how "cool" I or they think they are. I don't equate it to any level of sophistication.
Doesn't bother me..I personally don't smoke but most of my family and probably about half of my friends do.

Smoking is disgusting. And horrible for you're health. Kind of shows that people who smoke don't care much about their bodies. That's unattractive for both men and women.
I don't care as long as it's not an addiction.
I think it ruins the image of a good looking girl. They suddenly turn not so good looking...
@raiyaya@xanga - actually I agree with @aiinos@xanga. I don't think I could respect/look at someone who smokes the same way that I look at someone who doesn't. I mean chances are I couldn't repect their decision to start smoking in the first place (most times it's a reason like "looking cool", "peer pressure", or "stress"... I have not yet heard a good reason to start) and chances are just as well that I don't respect their decision not to have quit such a bad habit yet. Now if they're trying to quit, that's a different story. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it just dampens their image.
It's not only horrible for women, but men as well. And then to think that they would smoke in public places - endarger other people's health by secondhand smoke, too... that just makes me so irritated.
