What Defines Being 'Black'?
When I went to Ohio for my big sister's early college/high school graduation I saw my friend Tara at my big sister's graduation party. According to my friend Tara I am no longer considered a black person. I am only half black (my mom is white, my dad is black), but according to her I'm all white. She said that black people don't dress the way I do, so I am no longer black. She is white but considers herself black, she hates white people, don't ask me why. I asked her to define being black. She said "Black people aren't emo and don't wear what you wear."
See where this got confusing? So I asked what do they wear and what more defines them.
So she said, "Well black people are 'gangsta', they listen to rap and they where brands such as Sean John, Baby Phat and South Pole. They don't wear things from...Hot Topic. Well Alexis is the only other emo black person I know."
You can kind of guess my reaction. She being such a stereotype. Not all black people are like that. I wanted to rip my hair out. I know other black people who aren't like that, not all of them are 'gansta', listen to rap and wear baggy clothing.
So I want to know what defines being 'black'? Wearing baggy clothes and listening to rap? Or what? Tell me what you think.

you're black when you have blood relatives who are black. that means you are part black. who gives a fuck what you wear?
@BunnyParfait@xanga - NO human being is worthless.
And regardless of how you were raised, merely by virtue of BEING female, of looking like you do, of having a body like you'rs, you will, and you DO, get a free ride through life...I know it, you know it, everyone know's it !
The vast majority of scientific discoveries were made within a religious framework, and by religious and spiritual men....you try and show science "disproves" God !
@S_K_O_T@xanga - Oh please you obviously don't know shit about my life, get over yourself. And by the way you're incorrect about all science having religious basis; no science has religious basis. =]
i dont judge people by colour.
i mean..if the whole world was filled with all white/black people..it would pretty much be a very boring place, don't you think??
there is variety, there is uniquness..yet there is resemblance..there is difference...and yet at the same time similarities.
that is why each person is in fact unique...
i am south asian..i have a tan skin tone..i listen to all types of music..i have long straight hair...
its not such a big deal...to be blck..or white.
but i believe..we shouldnt see poeple in terms of colour...but in terms of their aura and personality.
never judge a book by its cover.
:)
@BunnyParfait@xanga - Nah, but you don't know shit about anyone else's life and you don't mind saying who should kill themselves, or who is worthless.
Yeah, I know much more than shit about your life, and it's a free ride all the wayyyyyyyyy baby.
Don't lie and try and paint it otherwise.
Get over YOURself !
And yes, ALL good science has a religious and spiritual foundation !
@S_K_O_T@xanga - You're the one that puts your ignorance out all over the internet for the world to see, so yes I know quite a bit about you but you know nothing about me. Kaythankss.
Shoo :]
@BunnyParfait@xanga - The internet is FULL of unbridled ignorance!
Is that an oxymoron? can anything, or indeed, anyone, be 'full' of ignorance?
However, no, I am not ignorant, very far from it.
Those kind of glib phrases..."ignorant", "narrow minded" etc etc are usually bandied about when a person is mor than a little too close to the truth, to upsetting the ignorant apple-cart that som cuh of the internet, and this society, is.
My words are actually a glimmer of truth, amongst a dull grey haze of idiocy, ignorance, and neglect...there are a few others as well...hopefully the rise to make a bright light of truth and conscience.
I'm CONFONTING a lot of bad, ignorant, arrogant shit on the internet, and in life.
I'm not your little dog, I won't "shoo"
@S_K_O_T@xanga - If its truth, prove it. Oh wait! Anyway, I don't tell dogs to shoo. Only worthless maggots.
@BunnyParfait@xanga - You talk about being 'scientific'?
Well, at least a dog will understand it when you 'shoo' them...you could do it 'til you're blue in the face, do it 'til the cows come home...and no maggots, not worthy maggots, not worthless maggots, not floor maggots...no maggot is ever going to understand a thing you say.
You, like too many others now, are an example of the 'Maggot Brain' that Funkadelic warned us about !
@S_K_O_T@xanga - Whatever makes you feel better =]
@BunnyParfait@xanga - Whatever?....makes me, 'feel better'?
Gee, I can think of a lot of things.
You offering?
Blah, blah, blah. I used to have this discussion all throughout high school and I finally said F** it. Wear what you want to wear, listen to what you want to listen too, kiss who you find attractive and anyone who gives you hell about it tell 'em to shove it where the sun don't shine
.
okay, i usually don't bother with the whole black race situation, because , well just because.
for starters, i am half black and half native american.
to tell you the truth, i don't think "black" has a meaning.
stereotypes. you win. :] i quit.
@xdiexthinx@xanga - THANK YOU! :]
atleast someone knows what they're talking about.
your friend is a stupid bitch. she's white first of all, how is she going to tell you about your own race? second, the fact that certain ethnicities HAVE to be a certain way never made much sense to me.
If your friend is going to say things like that, she's, quite frankly, an ignorant ass.
be and act however you want, theres no point of defining yourself based on your skin color.
