Belly Button Ring: Trashy or No Big Deal?
I have had a "thing" for this guy that I recently met at the beach over the weekend. We were chatting on Instant Messenger when he called me a wh*re out of nowhere. Upset, I asked him for his reasoning, which was, "you have a belly button ring."
This made me furious. I responded saying that a belly button ring does not make someone a slut, and he sarcastically responded "Yeah, ok." I just signed off and stopped talking to him.
I did not get this belly button ring for attention or to make me look like a slut. I got it because I have an "outtie" belly button that I did not like, and I thought a ring would make it look cool. I love my ring and I am not taking it out. However, I don't want people to have any misconceptions about me because of my jewelry.
Do you consider belly button rings sleazy? Does it change your opinion of girls if they have one? Do you have a belly button ring? If so, do you get comments like that because of it?

A piercing doesn't make a person who they are. That's so dumb and judgmental of that guy. Of course it's human nature to judge but I mean come one... it's a piecing. I can KIND OF understand tattoos (I do have quite a few btw) but if someone says having your navel pierced is trashy, then does that make having your ears pierced trashy too?

a belly ring is a belly ring. it's personality. however many piercings/tattoos you have and where you have them just individualize you more. there's nothing trashy/whorey/slutty/etc about them. it just means someones confident enough to show off something about themselves that makes them look different.
i have 6 piercings. getting a 7th this weekend. judge me.
Wow, that is just messed up. A belly button ring does not make you a slut, and it doesnt give any misconceptions. I think it's cute, and it's not like it's trashy. No, it's the people who usually have them. I know alot of slutty girls who have their bellys done, but i also know alot of girls who are complete sweethearts who have them done. It all just revolves around your personality and how you put yourself out.

Usually sleazy, but not always. There is a correlation with being a whore, but no, it doesn't by itself cause someone to be a whore.

Are you kidding me? It's a stomach. Bikinis? The beach, obviously it'll be visible in those cases and it's not trashy.
I've always wanted one, but I don't have a flat stomach. XD That, and I don't go to the pool/beach everyday so it would just be hidden under my clothes (which don't show my stomach at all). :l
I don't understand what the big deal is. Being trashy is all about the attitude. It's just another piece of jewelry to me. Maybe that's just me 'cause I love piercings. :D
Funny story, actually. My best (guy) friend and I were having this discussion. He thinks it's trashy and I'm fine with it. I think... well.. it can be a sleazey thing, but only if A] it's hanging out there ALL the time and B] if you make it sleazey (by showing it off ALL the time).
I also think it depends on the girl, as much as I hate to say it.

I don't think belly button piercings look trashy- they can look tacky depending on what jewellery you choose to wear in it though.
I had mine pierced when I was 13 and I have always just wore a standard curved barbell with small jewelled balls :) I got it- not because I thought it'd look sexy but because I love piercings. It was the first place I got pierced (after my ear lobes twice, which I no longer wear). But now I have a lip piercing, a madonna piercing, both nipples and my tragus done :)
Piercings are fun- not trashy.
I have a navel piercing and though I would never take it out because another person doesn't approve of it it kind of offends me that some think it makes a girl trashy. I'm one of the most shy girls out there and am a complete virgin (apart from a little kissing) so I don't understand where people get off judging a girl (or guy) about their jewelry. It's an attitude that makes you trashy not your freakin' piercing. Humans just love to judge. Nevertheless I completely adore my piercing and am so glad I got it :)
