I'm sure I'm not the only one in the Xanga community who straightens their hair on a regular basis (and let's face it, with hair like mine, I need to keep it in check). Because I always have it straightened I'm always looking out for the nicest straightening methods at an affordable price (I'm only 16 and have a part-time job, do the math).
The rare times that I've watched TV these past few weeks, I've seen many commercials advertising the
InStyler Rotating Flat Iron and it's made me extremely curious.
It gives a lot of cons against using flat irons which make total sense and I can see how this rotating iron might actually make it easier to do my hair. (Keep in mind, my hair is curly beyond belief, thick, and frizzy. Even though it's only up to my shoulders, it takes quite a while to straighten)
Have any of you girls used it or heard of it? Do you think it would be smart investing in the In-Styler Rotating Flat Iron? If not, what methods do you use to straighten your hair quickly and accurately?

I haven't heard about it until now, but if you want to spend $120 on it, go for it. I paid $150 on mine. I usually pay about $40 for one at Sally's [Jilbre], but I wanted to give the ones in the mall [Amika] a shot. I love mine. Any other ones [from Wal*Mart, Target, etc] just don't cut it for me. They don't get all the friz and waves out.
I think as long as you use one with high enough heat and some sort of protectant/styling cream you'll be fine. I personally recommend the Sleek.Look line from Matrix/Biolage. It protects up to 450 degrees farenheit and it doesn't even feel like anything and not sticky no matter what. Plus the line comes with a silicone based sealant which eliminates extra frizzies and humidity from the air :)
hmm i actualy never heard of it...
i heard of it. that actually isn't that bad of a price when you think about it. i lucked out + got my straightener for $20 + i absolutely adore mine. it's amazing + i wouldn't trade it for the world. i would def recommend using some kind of moisturizer to make sure that you aren't drying your hair out too much espically in the summer heat =)
I have an avon and conair straightner... the conair works better.
BIG NO.
It doesnt matter if you use the most expensive straightening method there is if your hair is not in good conditions.
You have to use a lot of of creams and products to keep the hair flexible and healthy, that way you can straight your hair with any iron.
Last year i got this straightener that straightens wet hair. i like it because when i straighten my dry, wavy mess it dosent look what i want it to.
Lets say if my straightner somehow stopped working, i'd probaly get a new one, instead of the in-styler because i never curl my hair or wave it or anything.
it seems like a neat idea but i never would want to damage my hair that much. usually i blow dry my hair every other day and since my hair is straight, i just leave it like that. straightening causes my hair to break too easily.
@MochaSprinkle@xanga - Hm, I think I'm going to try that. Is it an expensive line of products?
I think the line in general is considered "salon quality" or something like that, so it's not like, super cheap. The product I use a lot is from the Sleek.Look collection from Matrix and it's called "iron smoother". It actually protects hair up to 400 degrees (I made a mistake earlier, oops, sorry!) and combined with their "sealing serum" it can do no wrong. Of course, there's a whole line (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) but I find that because my hair is naturally curly it's best to use stuff for that. And the blow drying creams they have called "blow down" are made in 2 formulas: for coarse and for normal hair, so there's one to fit most people. I do find though that the cream and the spray and then the serum tend to weigh my hair down though :( The bottle of "iron smoother" is about $15 and lasts forever (and will on you since your hair is shorter than mine!) and you don't need a lot. Um um.. this is super long (sorry!) but I had to share since you are interested.I do hope you try it; I've tried a lot of things like it that promise the same results, but this one really did it. :)
@MochaSprinkle@xanga - Matrix/Biolage is around $20+. Wait for the sale at JCP and it's buy one reg. price get one for one cent! ;]
I've heard the chi one is good. I saw it at marshalls and ross for about $9 :]
I hate having my hair look crispy and what not. I loooove biosilk oil thingy. I tried paul mitchell skinny serum and it's too sticky for me. you can get biosilk from costco for $9 (need membership). at the store it's about $20+ (crzy right?! JCP was $24.50. I have to go return it!). Paul is $15-25.
No I have never heard of it. But I'm lucky I have MEGA straight hair.
@jesuismir@xanga - Really???? Oooomg I had no clue! I never shop at department stores, so yay, thanks! I get all my stuff at little independent beauty stores which always have things for discounts. I got something from their Vavoom line for $16, win!
I need to straighten my hair all the time, if I don't I look like a clown. But I heard it works pretty good, I'm thinking of getting one. It'd make life so much easier. Normally if the item they sell on TV becomes popular they start to sell it in stores.
i've see this quite a lot on tv i really don't know how well it works but i know it costs mucho dinero i advise to go with the regular ceramic flat iron found at cvs or target for like $20-$30. i've had mine since 2006 and it has been working. i usually turn the heat to high so it will get the job done faster
This sounds alright actually. I don't do stuff with my hair that often, but a rotating flat iron is pretty awesome.
i had it for a few days using the free trial period they had. I burned my neck after using it the first time! haha. I didnt really like it too well though because it did the same job as my cheaper straightener did. I finally got a Chi a few months ago and I love that.The Coroliss is pretty good too!
Okay , I bought this and I thought it would totally work ... It didn't , it sucked . My hair was frizzy and not even straight , plus it's exspensive and when you send it back , you only get $140 back . Don't waste your money on it , it doesn't work .
@Misscutefacechubbywaist@xanga - @ewwxitsxAPRIL@xanga - Thanks! Good to know
my hair is really kinky. and hard to control once the relaxer starts to grow out. my aunt got me the instyler (which i had just heard of) and it worked for me really well! my roots even stayed straight for like two weeks. and it felt so soft. so i guess it may just depend on your hair type or something? but i also have a sedu flat iron that i loveee, so if the instyler stopped working or something (or if the noise became too annoying lol) I'd just use my flatiron. :)
Yeah I have one. My hair is naturally wavy and very thick. I blow dry it straight first then use a straightener. Maybe I don't put enough time putting product in and straightening it in sections, but I'd much rather use a regular flat iron than the In Styler when I'm in a hurry.
I have one myself, and for the most part i really like it. like the infomercials, it can give you the extra volume and whatnot, but also, it's not exactly the straightener to use if you are in a hurry, but for a little extra time, effort and patience to actually figure it out, its a pretty good buy.
@fueledbylaura@xanga -
you said that you have a straightener that works on wet hair..
i was wondering if i could get the name of the brand and maybe where i can buy it also
thanks in advance
@SHiNiNGxSTAr__x3@xanga - i wish i know the name but i got it at at store called ulta, and if you cant find it there go to anyplace that has straightners and its really obvious to find. or you can google it.
I would suggest the Chi. IT would be a good investment even though the price range is pretty high. Youtube (How to and style / Guru selections)has plenty of reviews and recommendations and tutorials for flat irons, so I would suggest going there to get some "flat iron knowledge".
