What is the Obsession with Being Blonde?

I'm sure when you walk out into the street, 50% of the people you see are blond-haired, and another 90% of them are artificial blondes. What I mean by artificial blondes, are that these people chose to bleach/dye their hair into a tone of blond. A name they may be given are fake blondes or bottle blondes.
I'm not sure why someone would like to have peroxide and bleach cover their hair for hours on end to get that kind of an effect, but it's pretty weird to me. I mean, if you like blond hair, that's fine...but to an extent where you get dry and brittle hair...? That's a total turn-off.
So why do people want to have blonde hair?

I've never really been into blond hair. I've only bleached mine once, when I dyed it purple, and it only takes about 20-30 minutes. I dye mine different shades of reddish brown all the time, but that's because I've come to feel that that's my 'real' hair color. I accept it as more me than my natural shade of dark brown was.
I laugh at those with fake blonde hair. I can totally tell!! I have naturally blonde hair and I love it since natural blondes are so rare these days <3 if you cant decide if they are blonde naturally or not check out the eyebrows. Always gives it away!
Wow, lots of haters for blonde hair! I think it should be about what looks better for each individual. My coloring is great for my naturally blonde hair. Not everyone with blonde hair uses dye, besides some people view their hair as another fashion accessory, so to each their own but seriously, someone shouldn't be judged as less classy due to what may have occurred naturally. That's quite possibly one of the dumbest judgements I've ever heard.
@Goldenwolf18@xanga - lol not always, my eyebrows and roots are dark dark blonde and my hair is naturally light golden blonde. My friends tell me they can usually tell by looking at someone's skin tone, I think it'd be more of a clue.
When you've natural black hair all the time, you will want to do something to try.
@IHearTheOcean@xanga - yes but they are blonde and not brown or black ;) and i seen pale girls with dyed blonde hair so you cant really tell by skin colour
welll i am a natural blonde & i dyed my hair brown once, it did make my blue eyes pop more but i don't know, i didn't get as much attention as a brunette
i don't see a lot of blondes around here though
maybe it depends on where you live or something hahaha
but anyways, they probably just want to be blonde because they like the way it looks ! :)
I was a bottle blonde for 2 years back about 8 years ago. My hair is naturally light brown but I dye my bangs a dark red to compliment my blue eyes. I prefer the way I look now, than when I was platinum blonde in high school.
@Goldenwolf18@xanga - I guess it just bugs me that people think I'm a bottle blonde because my roots and eyebrows lol I think it's kinda funny but slightly annoying. But I guess you're right about the skint tone because in summer people, i don't know why, think I'm mix, but my skin is porcelian like yours.
-shrug-
I just think that I, personally, look cuter as a blonde. My hair's naturally light brown, so it doesn't take much processing to get the color I want.
Actually 90% of the people I see are actually brunette. There are rarely any blonds in my area.
lighter hair often makes you look younger
therefore, most women will go lighter as they get older in order to look younger
(for most natural blondes, your hair darkens as you get older....vibrant blonde hair is a sign of youth/fertility in our caveman brains)
i have blonde hair. naturally blonde hair. but i went through a stage where i wanted to have ANYTHING but blonde hair. so i've dyed it quite a bit and lots of different colors. right now i have it blonde in the front and brown in the back. my mom thinks i look better with my natrual blonde, but i think i look better as a brunette.
Evolutionary psycology explains that blonde hair is a sign of youth. Sooo people think having blonde hair will make them look younger and more appealing to boys :P
I think people should stick with what they like.
That being said - I really hate when natural redheads go blonde. They look so washed out.
hm, where i live, a lot of the girls who once dyed their hair blonde are now going for black/dark brown locks.
i guess everyone wants to keep up with what's in style. what i think is gross is when someone dyes their hair platinum blonde and it looks grey from a short distance away. =D
stupid obsession if you ask me, some people who dye their hair blonde looked way better with their natural colors
never been a blonde. never will.
i thoughts the stereotype of "blonde is more fun"
honestly, i don't think blondes have all the fun. please, it's just a stereotype. i love my natural hair color of black and have no intentions to coloring it another color. plus, if i was to color it, it would never go back to my natural hair color or i would have to wait for it to grow out. personally, i don't see all the hypes of being a blonde, i wouldn't want to hear all the jokes they make about blondes directed to me ever.
Personally, I got sick of the blonde stereotype (I'm naturally a darker blonde), so 3 years ago, I coloured my hair red. Barely anyone remembers my blonde hair, but I get the occasional 'you're such a blonde' comment, because I'm so clumsy and stuff.
I just find it kind of stupid that everyone is so intent on having bleach blonde hair. It's really over here. <.<
I have raven black hair and I love it. I've never dyed my hair and I never plan to [especially not blonde].
@hann_ah_mazing@xanga - It is right? I hate when people stereotype blondes. Like the whole dumb thing is irritating, and then people go and dye their hair blonde because of certain stereotypes like it's "sexier" or whatever.
And I hate when people say blondes are more "hot" than beautiful. So because I don't want to dye my hair darker, I'll always be "hot" and not beautiful?
Funny thing is, I'm naturally blonde and prefer to have brunette hair! : D
