The Infamous Aspirin Mask: A Reader's Review
I've been using the aspirin mask for a few months now and I loveeee it. I stopped using it for a few weeks because I was on vacation so my skin was kinda gross (a few pimples, oily and flaky!, red, and black heads), but after I used the mask there was a BIGG difference!!! My skin was back to normal! So definitely try it out if you haven't already =]
But..on to my question/problem...the mask sometimes dries me out and I'm not sure what to use for a moisturizer. I usually just use Lubriderm, but I'm wondering if there's anything else better that goes with the aspirin mask to keep the soft/brightening/whatever other effects it has on my face. Maybe something with SPF? I don't really prefer the Lubriderm with SPF.
If you use the aspirin mask, what else do you do in your skin care routine? If you don't, what is your skin care routine?

i use this aspirin mask 2 times a week and i use the st. ive's apricot scrub for blemishes and blackheads 5 days a week. i tone with neutrogena and moisturize with neutrogena anti-aging cream spf 15 and olay every day moisturizer spf 30 in the mornings before i apply my makeup :)
eh, i think i'd just stick with the natural food face masks.
Would it work with Advil (ibuprofen)?
You're not supposed to use it too often. It makes your skin sensitive to sunlight. I use toner and moisturizer after I use the aspirin mask and I don't use the mask that often at all.
@lizzie_wizzie@xanga - I think it must be aspirin. Preferably non-coated. Go to xanga.com/ricebunny. She has a video on it.
i tried the aspirin mask for a few times then i gave my entire jar away to my fd cuz he needed it. If i remembered correctly, i just used my regular moisturizer, whatever best suit ur skin type whould work. - i cleanse (makeup remover + cleanser), tone, eyecream, moisturizer, n' sometimes i'll use a mask n' spf - nothing special i guess.
@lizzie_wizzie@xanga - It has to be non-coated aspirin, because aspirin is the pill form of salicylic acid (which is the reason the mask is so effective).
i remember making aspirin in chem lab. they made us surrender our products because they were afraid we'd ingest them or rub them all over our faces. lol.
It's so hard to find an SPF moisturiser that doesn't make your face oily. =[ In my experience, anyway.
I use the aspirin mask weekly and it doesnt dry out my skin. I just make sure I use a good moisturiser after that. The one I use is Nivea Pearl White. Something like that. If you have oily skin maybe you can try an oil based lotion like the one by Loreal.
If it dries out your skin, maybe you're using it too often. My skin doesn't really have TOO many problems [occasionally oily or dry and a random pimple], so I think if I were to incorporate the aspirin mask into my skin care routine [which is currently just daily face wash and moisturizer], I would use it, at most, once a week.
What's aspiring mask?? Anyway, if u use it more than once (or twice, it depends on the state of ur skin) it does dry out ur skin..
I use nivea/garnier/l'Oreal products for my morning (and when I have time, night too) routine.. And use a scrub all the Sundays...
i use a toner and a moisturizer with spf 15.
olay moisturizer (:
@lizzie_wizzie@xanga - I don't think so because the two medicines have a different chemical compound. It WILL work with BC powder though. But Asprin tablets are more grainy which means more exfoliation.
mm. just tried it. it feels pretty nice.
YES! I use the aspirin mask 3-4 times a week. Use a mild, plain moisturizer that doesn't have all kinds of stuff in it. No AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, retinol, fragrance, etc. because after using the aspirin mask, your skin is more sensitive and maybe a little tender. You don't want to overwhelm it with a whole bunch of things at once. Save the acne/anti-aging/blackhead/whatever treatments for when you go to sleep so the treatment isn't competing with the dirt and free radicals you encounter during your day-to-day activities.
I use DDF Ultra Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew because it's plain, oil-free, and absorbs right into my skin. Most other moisturizers make my really oily skin break out. The DDF is $38 for 1.7 oz, but you only need a tiny bit. Well, I use a tiny bit- I know there are people out there who really slather it on, but I think that's a waste. Another option you might try is Cetaphil moisturizer and it's cheaper.
As for sunscreen, DDF also has an SPF 15 version ($40) of my moisturizer (look closely because the packaging is very similar to the regular Moisturizing Dew) and so far it hasn't caused any pimples for me. The texture is a little thicker than the non-sunscreen one. I only have a sample size of this because I have to watch my budget right now, so I use Neutrogena's Ultra-Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 70. After washing my face, I put the sunblock on, let it absorb into my skin while I put the sunblock all over the rest of my body, including the tops of my ears and back of my hands, then use my moisturizer, do my hair, and apply whatever makeup I plan to wear. It sounds like such a hassle, but really, you're multi-tasking so you're not waiting for one thing to do its job.
I don't understand why the the aspirin mask is "infamous."
i dont think aspirin mask is suitable for sensitive and long term usage.
last year, i had major outbreaks on my whole face then i've tried using aspirin mask 1-2 times a week for few months and it did clear up almost everything. It was definitely affordable and useful compared to going salon for facial wash.
i would use neutrogena deep hydrating mask after washing away the aspirin mask.
it's important to get a good moisturizer too.
so far, i've not used any aspirin mask for this year.
ehh... I used to use the aspirin mask and it dried out my skin. D=
may i ask where do you get aspirin mask? i saw some webbie DIY-ed their own aspirin masks.
The mark line by avon has some really great moisturizers. They are made mostly from all natural ingredients and there are 3 different ones to fit your needs. I love the "for goodness face" one because it is so creamy and it really moisturizes good. Check them out at: www.youravon.com/cvaca
@supersteller@xanga - If I'm understanding the intention exactly, I think what the author meant was 'glorious' or any other synonym meaning 'good.' Infamous, though appears to have a positive connotation in meaning, is synonymous with evil.
