Hot or Not: The High-Waisted Skirt

Low-rise skirts are getting harder and harder to find in the top fashion shops these days, and for good reason. The high-waisted skirt is a throw-back from the 1980s and 1990s that is really cute and forgiving to all body types.
Whether you're thin or curvy, the high-waisted skirt (whose waistband is meant to rest slightly above the belly button) is a great way to take the focus away from the gut area and brings the eye toward the bustline and accentuates the naturally beautiful curve of the female hips. The high-waisted mini above is a great find on sale at Charlotte Russe right now for $11.29. I got one similar in pink for about $5 at the location near me.
The simplest way to begin putting together an outfit with a mini high-waisted skirt is to simply pair it with a tank or snug-fitting t-shirt. It's important to make sure that the shirt you choose doesn't get bunchy around where the waistband hugs it to your form. The skirt shown above elongates the torso by beginning just under the bustline and ending far above the knee, making it a mini skirt. acheived with a very form-fitting, simple look.

For a playful look, go for a longer skirt with a flowy fabric.

The next step is adding tights. Depending on the accessories and shoes you chose, this can achieve a very edgy look or a fun childlike style.

A more sophisticated look is achieved by adding a blouse or thick belt. This also helps you get the hour-glass effect.

The narrower version of the skirt and the version that sits lower on the abdomen (just above the belly button) makes for a good business casual look.

Another way to dress for the occasion is to pay attention to the pattern, print, and texture of the fabric. Plaids, tweed, and slack material are also good for the professional or scholastic look.

For a classy party look, spruce it up with louder colors and prints such as florals.

And for a really pretty style, ruffles and lace give that old-fashioned beauty. The best piece of advice for a high-waisted skirt is to keep the shirt snug, simple, and small. Wearing a top that is too puffy or loud gives the wrong impression that you got dressed in the dark. This kind of skirt already says a lot. Be minimalistic with the 'leotard' formed by the tights and shirt and let the skirt speak for itself.
Are you ready to rock your high-waisted skirt? Is the look hot or not?

hot :)
hot on some people, who can pull it off.
I wouldn't wear it.
@dictionary____dreams@xanga - They're kinda hard to pull off if the girl is wearing a belt.
hot!
I love, love, love high-waisted skirts. Then again, I tend to wish I lived in the times of Audrey Hepburn when women were feminine but not slutty.
hot. lovee it
I like them!
hot. duh.
I have several. Love love love them, been wearing them for ages. I'm glad everyone else is catching on, they look lovely on anyone. :)
i'm lovin' it. it's so cute =)

HOT
I love them, I own 2 :)
Ew.
I'm quite curvy. (My measurements are the same as J. Lo's, except an inch smaller on each measurement ... just to give you a better picture.)
I can already tell that a high-waisted skirt would only make my hips look even MORE ginormous. In a few of the scrawny models above, their skirts already make their hips look too big. It might have something to do with the material, though (like not being heavy enough).
I'm pretty sure only super-skinny girls could pull this off nicely.
hot on some...
hotttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
its a very classic, chic, look, yet with tights their abit edgier looking
some people cannot pull this off though,
but hell, with confidence you can pull of anything!
It depend on the person and the dress, but I like it.
totally hot!!! and cute!
Somehow, I think you managed to find pictures of all the ugliest skirts/outfits on the entire interwebz.
I normally like high-waisted skirts (especially a pencil shirt and blouse done up in a classy secretary sort of way), but those pictures you posted are hideous.
I like high-waisted skirts on some people, but on others it can make them look as if they have no torso, which can give the effect of looking shorter. If you wear it right, it can elongate your legs while still giving you an hour-glass shape. Tights are a great addition for cooler weather. In addition, they are great for people who are bustier but lacking in the hip area. For me personally, most high-waisted skirts cause me to look unbalanced - as if I have too much in the way of hips (I have an almost-hourglass figure).
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - ahahaha, I'd hope you wouldn't wear it. :P Still, some guys can almost pull off the skirt look. See example. :D
