Should I Grow My Own Eyelashes?
I've seen ads for vitamin eyelash/eyebrow supplements for people who over-tweeze or don't have naturally long lashes, but I recently saw a commercial for a prescription eyelash enhancer, called Latisse.
I am one of those girls with short eyelashes, and it drives me crazy. I want to try the vitamin supplements, but I don't believe they work, so I will probably end up getting a prescription at my upcoming physical. The commercial listed some side effects, but the only one I remember was "darkening of the eyelid." Great, no need to buy eyeshadow.
But seriously, is that healthy? What if it makes all of my facial hair grow faster? What if all my body hair grows faster too?! Ew.
So this is my way of researching... what do you think of the prescription for longer eyelashes?

I have no idea. I have short eyelashes too, but I don't mind that much :).
doit
it sounds really dangerous. i mean, why would you want it?
i'm sort of biased, because i hate permanent or semi-permanent changes people do to themselves, including dying their hair, getting plastic surgery, tattoos, and piercings. so to me, getting that eyelash stuff is equivalent to a boob job. so i guess my opinion isn't really something you should listen to too closely. haha
@PenaltyLife@xanga - I have the same views on cosmetic changes.
I know of a much cheaper, much easier way. If you've heard of Ardell, they make a Lash and Brow Growth Accelerator that you topically apply to your eyelashes regularly the way you would mascara that just speeds the growth of the hair it's applied on (best the closer it's applied to the roots).
Something like this will never be an instant change, but I noticed my eyelashes getting gradually longer after a week or two when I used it every night. It's only $3-$4 for a tube, it worked on me - I have short, stick straight, sparse lashes, and the only "side effect" I've experienced is accidentally getting it in my eye and, as most foreign things do, having it burn/itch until I could rinse it out. The only reason I don't use it anymore is just laziness.
I don't have any ideas ...sorry ...
byt I think you shouldn't mind it .
I was going to write a post on this....oh well. lol
I cringe every time that commercial comes on. It also may change your eye color! WTF kind of side effect is that?! That cannot be healthy.
A much simpler way to grow your lashes is to use mascara every other day for awhile and use conditioner on your lashes once a week. It will keep your lashes soft and make them less likely to get brittle and break off.
I think if it works, I'd definitely buy it! I hate my short eyelashes and I have almost invisible eyebrows. I say give it a try after consulting a doctor and let us know how it goes!
god luck!
batta your eyelashes for me baybay
It's a liquid that you put right on the eyelashes, it couldn't make the rest of your hair grow.
Make sure you talk to your doctor about all the other side effects. I know I remember it saying it could cause increased brown iris pigment, that could possibly be permanent.
Hm, this is the first kind of drug for growing eyelashes right? I wouldn't trust it right off the bat. It usually takes a few tries for a product to be perfected. I have short eyelashes too. I think it's safer to just stick with gluing fake eyelashes instead of trying this risky, first-time product.
only latisse works, but you have to be careful and not to apply to much, because every place it touches, hair will grow. I've been using it for couple of weeks now and it makes my lashes longer, thicker and darker. one of my coworker applied too much of it and now she has hair on her outer eye corners. LOL =x
No, girl, get eyelash extensions. http://www.lashoutpro.com/
@thats_not_my_name@xanga - I agree, that is one risk I would not take.
One of the side effects mentioned was irisdarkening. I really like the baby blues that I was born with and would never want to mess with my eye color, even if the occurance was rare as claimed.
my recommendation is to become happy with your appearance. i have short lashes and i don't care
@black_lie@xanga - agreed. Some of those side effects seem nasty!
this is fucking stupid.
SO FUCKING STUPID.
Don't let this be the only research that you do. People's opinions should never count as research.
This seems kind of silly... maybe because I don't have short lashes so I'm not sure how short-lashed people feel...as silly as that sounds...
erms i say dont do it. wait till the reviews
I've used the kind that's sort of like a gel that you paint onto your eyelashes and it works pretty well (I like the kinds that don't have prostoglandins - the ones that do make my eyes hurt). If you use ones with prescription drugs, your lashes can grow so long you have to cut them. The one I use only has vitamins in it and it made my lashes a little longer (and it makes the thinner ones thicker).
there's a rx for eyelashes to grow faster? i don't think i really need it. mines are pretty long themselves. just wish i could get something for my hair to grow quicker.
Uh, no thanks. I prefer them natural.
do it. haha
i have no idea about the prescriptions. but i use to use vaseline or olive oil for my eyebrows and eyelashes to grow longer. they helped well for me.
