My Issue with Actors who are also Musicians, Fashion Designers and Models
I was on people.com earlier and happened across this gem of Kim Kardashian guest starring on The N's Beyond the Break. Ch-ch-check it out: Kim's Guest Starring Role
Kim Kardashian follows in a long line of celebrities with different "talents." From The Hills star Lauren Conrad's foray into fiction to most of the Gossip Girl cast working on albums, no one seems to be satisfied with one gig anymore. And why should they?
Normal (ha) people don't only have one interest; they dabble in all of their passions while paying the bills. I think it's great when talented people spread their wings and expand and all that great stuff, but can someone name one person in the entertainment industry right now who is really a triple threat? I'm talking about someone who's -oh I don't know- acting is on par with their singing and their fashion house? Because it seems like we have a whole lot of people who excel in one area and are mediocre in the others.
Is it better to focus all of your energy on being the best at something or is it better to do it all if given the opportunity? Who is a triple threat?

nothing drives me crazier than celebrities who cross over.
just because you can act and have a good voice does not mean you should record an album. you'll probably fail. just because you're a celebrity who can dress well does not mean you should be a designer. with the exception of the olsen twins (they design really nice collections for their lines the row and elizabeth and james), i've really disliked any collection that a celebrity "designer" has designed. even top fashionista victoria beckham's collection failed miserably. don't even get my started on Lauren Conrad or Whitney Port's lines. so unoriginal, overpriced, and boring. i could rant for days.
of course, there are always exceptions. some people are very successful after crossing over. but the exceptions are few and far between.
That's a good question about the triple threat. I know Jay-Z is very successful in his rapping career as well as his clothing line and that models like Charlize Theron have thrived in the acting world, but as for 3 talents, that's quite rare.
2 words
MILEY CYRUS
@tears_foraffairs@xanga - iagree,Conrad's clothing isn' too amazing >< it's cute, but not anything new.
hmm maybe gwen Stafani? she can sing and has a cute fashion line...
I'm surprised Hilary Duff wasn't mentioned in this. But seriously, if money wasn't an issue, I highly doubt that most celebrities would consider doing "more" with their careers if they knew that they didn't actually have those talents required to be a success.
I was going to say Beyonce, because she does make some great songs, and I've seen some of her clothes... but I also just saw the movie "Obsessed" and can recall her acting being sub-par... but her role was also written as sub-par. She had the cheesiest lines in the movie. I felt bad for her...
I think people who truly try for art, such as Gwen Stefani, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, etc, are welcome to dabble around. I don't honestly think they truly care about money; I believe they do everything they do for artistic purposes, because fashion/music/acting/etc identifies them as an artist and they want to use their art to market their name.
But I can't stand the pursuits of people like reality TV starlets such as Lauren Conrad who think they're knowledgeable about fashion and entitled to selling higher-priced clothing simply from having a lot of blessings from an MTV show and also Heidi Montag and her singing endeavors (along with her husband's obnoxious claims that she is better than anyone else in the industry, including the legendary Madonna!). Their work is just ordinary, most likely just for money and fame, and I wouldn't want to buy it.
Male stars... Jamie Foxx. Great comedian, great actor, great musician (vocal AND instrumental skills). That man's got awards to prove it.
drives me crazy too
The only one I can identify is a Japanese celebrity. Fukuyama Masaharu is an actor, singer/songwriter, and photographer and he's one of the few celebrities I can think of that is known equally well for at least the singing and acting (he was asked to photograph for the Olympics a few years ago, so someone probably knows he's good for that too). If I think hard enough I might be able to come up with another one, but right now I'm drawing a blank. I hate it when celebrities dabble in all of these things, and then come out with a new fashion line or a new album that's just mediocre, if at all good.
hmm i don't know any that's great in all aspect o.O
@yamaguch3e@xanga - I agree!
i actually think that if you are given the opportunity to do it all, why not do it? i know i would sing, own a fashion line, act, create a new designer handbag label, start selling my items on qvc/hsn, be on a reality tv show, etc... if i was famous enough. no one could say they wouldn't. just look at miley cyrus. she knows what she's doing and i'm sure she'll be around to stay for a little while longer. you aren't going to be famous forever and once you get the stardom and realize that you are creating a lot of fans, you defintely have the opportunity to do those things. why not experiment and pursue a lot of your hopes/dreams that you have? let the celebrities be. as long as they aren't in rehab, messing around, or doing things that they aren't supposed to be doing then props for them for trying.
Beyonce,& p Diddy come to mind.
@sunshinesasha@xanga - agreed :)
I'm thinking beyonce, and maybe jennifer lopez....not that they are my fav.
@noree_n@xanga - LOL!
@noree_n@xanga - Miley Cyrus is a really bad actress. I'm sorry, but she's horrible!! :P
@the_hidden_angel@revelife - yeah she's a bad...everything!
@noree_n@xanga - Haha. ok, glad we're on the same page :P I have a friend whose little sister absolutely loves Miley's show... watches it religiously. 'lyk omgsh, lol!" -.-,
Greedy bitches.
(:
@the_hidden_angel@revelife - i honestly can't stand listening to her sing.
ARGHHHH, i'd rather stab my ears out with blunt pencils.
sdhnfjksdhfashdfka.
@MOOOOOOF@xanga - i like her singing! haha. i'm neutral about miley cyrus. :)
you're right. where are the old fashion musical stars?
where are the actors that just happened to take an undergrad in fashion design?
people just use fame as a jumping off point for other ways to explore the industry and make money.
I don't know if I really care. It just sucks to see shitty things being produced.
