  • Picking the Right Foundation

Hi everyone. I know that Lovelyish is a great place to get answers to questions concerning beauty and the like, so I am hoping that someone can help me out.

I am a twenty-something girl with a mixed background (very fair skinned European and dark Latin American). Finding a foundation that is light enough, but containing enough yellow pigments is a little difficult for me. Also, I have a freckles, red-spots, and really bad black/purple under my eyes to cover, so something thicker would be appreciated.

I was using Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Cream in shade Light 2, but I can't find it anymore in such a thick formula. Also, I would like something to better match the tan I have on the rest of me.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  What are some home remedies or products I can try out?

Go to any make up store like Sephora and get a beauty consultant to help you find the right foundation.

I have trouble with finding the right color too. Everything seems to be too dark or too light. I like the suggestion of going to Sephoras. Maybe I will do that so I can find out once and for all what the heck I'm supposed to look like with foundation/blush!

u want foundation with yellow undertones?
    bobbi brown?

I have the same problem: light skin but not pink like blondes have. I also have some red spots to hide, thats why regular liquid foundantions dont work on me.

Thats why i bought several liquid foundations and i'm happy with this two:
    - channel pro lummiere (20 clair cameo intensity 1) (very thick)
    - maybelline dream mat (21 beige nude) (medium thick)

I havent tried the new mineral power liquid foundation, but i do use the powder (beige medium) which is the lighter i could find.

    it works for me :D

I buy my foundation from clinique, and they've always picked out the perfect shade for me. Its better to have one of them pick it out for you instead of you making the decision by yourself. Also, you can always tell them what you're looking for, i have always been very satisfied with their suggestions.

L'oreal True Match is good to match your skin tone with, as long as you go through all the steps it should have at the display.  It's good coverage and has SPF.  You should get concealer for the under eyes and any other problem spots.

To get the best color match I'd go to to department store or Sephora and see one of the consultants. I've heard the Make Up Forever HD Foundation is good although I have never tried it myself.

Drugstore foundations I have used that are good are: Revlon Colorstay and Rimmel Lasting Foundation Enriched with Minerals. Revlon has a lot of color choices while Rimmel does not. The Rimmel foundation has excellent lasting power and coverage, as does Revlon. I've also heard Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Your Face Makeup and also the spray foundation from that same line are good.

For your under eye circles, I'd get a peach tinted concealer for those. I've heard Bobbi Brown's Corrector is awesome for under eye circles. I'm waiting for mine in the mail now.

go to a big cosmetic store that sells different brands so you can ask their consultant to pick one for you, then you can try to look for similar drug store brands.

go to everydayminerals.com. They have a Free sample kit where you get 3 sample foundations, concealer, and a blush. It only costs shipping where it's about 3$. It's really great, I highly recommend it, they have so many colors to chose from, your bound to get a match. The samples last such a long time and the make-up is affordable. Sorry to sound like an ad lol.

if you want something with yellow undertones, try shiseido foundation (O20, O40, O60 and beyond). O stands for Ochre, which is for people with yellow undertones. go to either nordstrom or macy's shiseido counter and ask them to pick out a shade and you can take samples home to try it out yourself.

I went to Sephora... WOW the foundation is amazing. They have like every tone made two different ways, with warm and cool undertones. Look in cool undertones, and you should find it.

  • Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga

Oh my gosh, have you tried using...multiple foundations?

  • crazysogul@xanga

yea like the picture i use bobbi brown. it runs out pretty fast otherwise its great foundation.

  • pinkdagger@xanga

I second Everyday Minerals. They have different formulas for different coverage and different undertones (ranging from very pink to beige to buff to very yellow to very yellow-green) and all the shades from the fairest to the darkest. And as mentioned before, they'll let you order as many free sample kits as you want (one per order) until you find your match. Heck, I found my match ages ago and still get myself more free kits...

Also, it's VERY affordable and the quality is fantastic.

go to Sephora or Macy's, tell them what's up and they will help you out.

I am on a search for foundation too. I recently spilled some liquid foundation on white pants and it will not come out, no mattter what stain-fighting concoction I try. The fact that something I put on my face will stain my clothes kinda freaks me out.

  • MochaSprinkle@xanga

I'd go with MAC... their all of their foundation lines are defined by the tones- NC (cool) or NW (warm). It's not too yellowy but just enough and it blends just perfectly!!

  • lavender_palace@xanga

i use Guerlain Parure extreme foundation, it has the greatest coverage and texture, very long lasting and sweat proof too..so glad i found it will never bother with trying other foundation no more

i suggest mary kay, they have stuff for everyone.

If you like heavy coverage and want something a little cheaper than the above suggestions, go with Covergirl's foundation... it is heavy but not oily.
