  • Facial Scrubs or Masks?

We all need to exfoliate dead skin cells, from our faces and bodies, to reveal newer healthier skin cells.  But which weekly facial treatment is more effective for this purpose?  Scrubs or masks?

Based on my experience, granular scrubs can be too harsh on my skin.  You can feel the scrub particles creating microscopic scratches on your face.  The stronger scrubs usually leave a temporary feeling of tautness (we all love the feeling of firmness), which is usually accompanied with stinging.  How unpleasant!  Is pain an indication that the scrub is working?  A prime example is Origin's Modern Friction.  It almost felt like too much of the skin layer was taken off, exposing the sensitive thin layer underneath because it hurts like crazy!

My new favorite facial product is Sekkisei Seikisho Mask White.  It's a peel-off mask that comes off in one piece.  After careful examination upon unmasking, you will find evidence of whiteheads in the onyx background of the mask (contradictory to the product name).  It works just like the Biore Pore Strips, but unlike the strips, it is not only limited to your T-Zone.  The mask leaves my face silky smooth without the discomfort of harsh chemicals from some scrubs.  I'll still need the nose strips to remove the blackheads on my nose.  For some reason, I can't stop looking at the tiny whiteheads adhered to the mask and not on my face! The smooth feeling lasts for a few days after treatment, which is nice.

Bliss Steep Clean enzymatic mask is also a favorite of mine.  Effective, yet gentle.  It refreshes the skin after a long, hard day.

What do you like to use to exfoliate?  What do you find works best for your skin?
