  • Skin Loves: Rosewater

    What is Rosewater?

    Rosewater
is an component of the distillation of rose petals, and a by-product of steam distilling rose petals use for rose products.

Since ancient days, roses have been very popular in its uses for skin.  In the present, it is used in skincare and cosmetic products.

Do not be surprised, rosewater is used widely in cooking, as well as flavoring for sweets and many other food items.  However, this is more common for Indian, Middle Eastern, and Persian cuisine.

    Rosewater on Skin

Rosewater is an effective mild astringent, it is a good form of toner.  It helps to firm and tone skin without drying it, as there is no alcohol content present. This is especially good for more matured skin. As rosewater is very mild, it is recommended for use, not just on dry skin, but on very sensitive skin. It helps to calm irritated and inflamed skin as well. After my dermabrasion facial, which I do on a weekly basis to remove dead skin cells, I just love how rosewater calms it after the "rough" process.

I use rosewater as a spray mist frequently throughout the day (once an hour, if i remember to).  Rosewater makes the skin feel fresh, smooth, and radiant with each spray and gentle patting, allowing the skin to absorb it well. It helps to rid pores of grease that causes acne and blackheads.

After approximately 6 weeks of using Rosewater, my skin looks radiant and I am confident enough to go out without makeup. I now just need to have my rosewater spray with me. It hydrates my skin well and makes it glow.  It is highly recommended for those with dry skin and people residing in dry regions.

For people with oily or combination skin, the use of Rosewater is good to constantly hydrate the skin because our skin secretes oil to moisturize and balance off the skin moisture level. If your skin does not absorb the rosewater well due to an oily surface, gently blot off a bit of the oil with oil paper blotters before spraying on the rosewater. This will help.

You can also make your own Rosewater at home. Try some organic roses though, those without the use of pesticides.

(This is a simple makeshift recipe. Use it if rosewater is not readily available. The real process of making rosewater is more complicated.)

    Ingredients :

    - 10 Rose Buds
    - 250 ml water

    How to :
    1) Rinse the rose buds.
    2) Put the water to boil.
    3) Pour water over rose buds like how you will make tea.
    4) Cover the cup and leave the rose buds to soak in the boiling water.
    5) Drain it off and allow it to cool to room temperature.
    6) Empty contents into a spray bottle.

It will be best to keep it refrigerated. The content is recommended to be kept for a max. 3 days

What do you use to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy?

Has anyone had any positive experiences with rosewater or any other skin product?
