What Can I Do With This White Cardigan?

My mum recently bought herself a white cardigan and realized she didn't like it, so she gave it to me. I don't like it myself, but she told me not to waste because it cost her £18. I won't point out the hypocrisy.

See? It's less than pretty. I'm a dab hand at sewing and I make regular trips to my local haberdashery, but my creativity usually slumps when it comes to customizing.
So I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to make this plain Jane cardigan more stand-outish. I'm thinking, definitely change the buttons, and ideally I'd love it to look like the one Bilson is wearing:

Except mines much shorter... unfortunately. Any tips? Thanks!

jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses. it's veratile. stick to casual stuff.

you can put a cute brooch to spice it up a bit. you can use it over a summer dress, or over a tank and shorts or skinny jeans...accessorize like the picture.
it's white, you can match it up to just about anything.

this is one of those things that it helps on what you wear with it, It could be awesome with the right shirt, or scarf. =)

wear it. duhhh. lol that's what i was thinking when i saw the title. wear it anyway you want it..just don't make it too ridiculous. simplicity is the way to go.

I like it. Just wear a cute shirt underneath, or wear it with a springtime-ish dress, and it will look fine.

you could put colored buttons on it!

You could probably cut some slits in it around the waist area, to make makeshift belt loops, and then put a ribbon or something through the loops.

are you kidding? I kind of love it...
wear it. to make it more casual, roll the sleeves up to your elbows. or unbutton it. anything you want!

i'd dye it off-white.. and then put some gold/navy/black buttons on it. then wear it with everything. i think bright white is slightly tacky.

Definitely wear it with a simple shirt & a solid color skirt/short/pant. Then, wear a cohesive, designed scarf to make it really bold. (:

Short cardigans are cute! If you have a strapless dress, it goes as a great cover. Leave it unbuttoned and maybe push the sleeves up a little to make it look more "spring". A colorful sundress would go nicely with this.

wear it either
- with a nice scarf, buttoned
- over a sundress, open
- open over a black tee with white pants
make the buttons dark brown or black.
If you want to dye it, how about navy with gold buttons, or black with buttons of the same color, or off-white with dark buttons.

i wish my mom bought me a cute little cardigan. or had one and gave it to me. haha. wear it with a nice flowy skirt or something. they go well with pretty much anything.

I think that it's going to depend on the buttons. I think that buttons in different primary colors would be nice that way you could wear it with different things.

Since your cardigan in more fitted, and bilson's is more baggy, in order to mimic the style i think you should baggy up something else. for example, wear the same fitted tank, and your fitted cardigan, but pair them with some boyfriend jeans like the ones that come in capris from american eagle.

i would chnage the buttons to some large sailor buttons or something, and then wear it with a large graphic tee and skinnies/oxfords with teh sleeves rolled up

Casual (tank top and jeans?) w/ a purse, pretty much. That's all you really need, and even better, some matching accessories?

Wow, I'm not even stylish myself, yet I like this idea. = P It's really not that bad, though.

just wear jeans or shorts or a mini skirt with it.

i cant wear white because im really clumsy and when i eat, food will drop on it. LOL
