How To Remove a Hickey
I thought after a certain age, getting a hickey would be a moot point. However, a friend of mine recently got one. It happened to be parent's weekend at the school she was attending. Mom and dad were nearing Lehigh as she tried to google her way out of the problem.
What did she do?
You will need:
- A hickey
- A blow dryer
- A comb or brush
- A scarf if all else fails
She used the blow dryer to warm up the blood vessels on her skin. She then used a comb to smooth out the hickey and the surrounding area. This technique is supposed to break up the broken blood vessels (but don't comb too hard or you will just scrap your skin and make it worse).
After fifteen minutes, apply a cold compress.
Some other solutions include the cold spoon method:Put a spoon in the freezer for a few minutes. Apply pressure and slide the spoon along the hickey. The pressure and coldness help disperse the blood that has formed. You will need to repeat freezing as a warm spoon is useless. You must use a lot of pressure with the spoon but should see results over a few minutes of doing this. This solution is from the article "How to Remove a Hickey." I suggest you check it out -- it even has a video demonstrating different removal techniques including the comb method, the spoon method, and the coin method. If all else fails, wear concealer (one shade lighter than your skin) or grab a scarf.Have you ever had to remove a hickey? What did you do?This post was submitted a Lovelyish reader.

Spoon technique always works!
Ahh dang thats embarrsing but hehe I will try it some time!
never tried to remove a hickey. Interesting.
In my experience, putting a cold compress on it asap makes it heal faster. I've never tried this technique before. My boyfriend managed to give me the monster of all hickies a few weeks back, and I told him if he ever did that again I'd smack him. So I'm really hoping I'll never have to remove a hickey ever again.
Never got one. My guy friend tried the spoon technique though.
Cold spoon works. So do scarves, haha.
You can try C or D batteries..and just rub it in a circular motion and the redness will lessen.
Lmao I should have shown this to my friends at the time where they were all wearing scarves.
This would have been good to know a week ago. Last Sunday night I accidently gave my boyfriend a hickey, and he said the next day at work it was the first thing everyone looked at when they looked at him. l0l. I felt so bad. For girls we can just cover it with our hair (or scarf!) if we have to... but guys with short hair have no option but to let the world see it. I'll definitely keep this is mind for next time =)
i used to remove my nephews hickies with the top of a nail polish bottle or a chap stik cap and id rub extra hard :)
I'm glad there's no "wear a turtleneck" solution on here.
Ah, if only I had known this when I was a trouble maker...then again, this trick might have made me worse ;) lol!
My mom told me to put toothpaste on it, I did but I'm not sure if it ever worked as I constantly put it on. Someone else told me chapstick, I thought that was a stupid suggestion so I never tried it. Otherwise, I'd put make-up on. Or just don't let anybody suck on your neck!
my bf thought it wud be funny.. to grab my face.. and give me a hickey right between the eyes... omfg.. u kno how painful it was.. and how BIG and embarrassing the hickey turned out to be!!!.. not funny at all.. i had to put concealer + foundation over it.. :( i didnt kno about these methods.. but its good to kno next time he wants to be funny.. -_-
great advice but isn't the point of a hickey is usually to show-off or mark your territory and let others know your couple status and imply that "I'm taken, so back the eff off!"
LOL...Never had a hickey and never want one, but it's good to know some FYI's.....
Concealer time lol!
I'll have to keep this in mind. Thanks!
spoon technique or concealer
always works
This is interesting.
I didn't know you could remove a hickey.
Or just.... don't get a hickey? Ha ha.
thanks for the info. this might come handy in the future ^^
warm up a nickel and rub it against the hickey. If all fails, umm... say u were bitten by an insect. :)Â
Lovely.
I'll keep this in mind if I ever get a hickey.
Interesting article!
