• Hey Women, Wear Skirts!

  
  

  I went to Target today looking for a dress or skirt set to wear to church on Easter. There used to be a whole dress section in department stores, but not anymore! I looked, and looked, and looked, there were barely any dresses or skirts, and the ones that were there were hardly suitable for church (meaning they were mega short).

  
  So anyway, this lack of skirts and dresses made me think about how less women wear skirts or dresses on a regular basis. Is this some new age woman trend, where women feel they have the same rights, or are in pursuit of having the same rights as men, so they wear pants like a man?

  I am a woman, and I like wearing skirts, although I don’t have nearly enough of them in my wardrobe. Not that pants are unfeminine or masculine or that women shouldn’t wear them, but skirts are definitely part of a feminine attire collection. Men don’t wear skirts, which makes them a woman’s thing.

  A huge argument broke out in my senior seminar class in college (the class that is supposed to “prepare” you for life after college, pssh..) The professor suggested that to be taken seriously in a job interview you needed to wear pants, while others refuted that saying that a woman should wear a skirt suit on a job interview, or that it shouldn’t matter either way as long as she is well dressed.
  

  

  
  

  

  In essence, I feel like what she was saying was that to be taken seriously at a job you need to emulate a man, wearing something that men wears (pants) rather than what only women wear (skirts). This isn’t a great way to look at things, in my opinion. The sexes are different; men and women have different parts, what’s wrong with wearing different clothes to cover those parts?

  Is wearing a skirt a statement of feminity?  Will a woman be taken more seriously when wearing pants, or when wearing a skirt?
