  • Burkas: It Wouldn't Bother Me...

What are you comfortable walking around in? Are you comfortable being around people in string bikinis? What about mini miniskirts? How much skin is too much skin in your opinion?

A friend of mine was talking about this and I said I hate walking around seeing almost naked people all over the place. Seriously it would not bother me if everyone was forced to wear Burkas (Sure send the hate mail...you know you want to)

Covered is so much more beautiful then showing everyone and their mother your private parts.

My favorite clothes are Shalwar Kameez.

The line has elasticized baggy trousers (Shalwar), a dress-length loose shirt (Kameez) and a long scarf (Dupatta) which can be draped in several ways.

It is so much better than the people walking around almost naked.

So what are your thoughts? What are you comfortable walking around in? Are you comfortable around people in string bikinis? How much skin is too much skin?

i feel like i'm actually more comfortable in people walking around in string bikinis than burkas! it's just the culture i guess?

no skin is too much skin for me, i think naked is beautiful. while i, personally, don't feel comfortable walking around in bikinis or tiny shirts/short shorts (in school, anyway), i really don't have a problem with other people dressing that way.

    bodies are beautiful.

I don't like seeing people walk around half naked. If you're gonna walk around in your bikini why not walk around in your underwear.

  • xsmashthesilencex@xanga

    I completely agree.
I feel so comfy everytime I wear a salwar kameez.

  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

I don't like seeing people walking around half naked either..

But I think you're kinda going from one extreme to another with the whole string bikini vs burka thing.

I pretty much just wear jeans and tshirts and nobody has to see things they don't wanna see.  =P

I am not for forcing people to wear anything.  I am for people having the freedom to express themselves and be who they are.  If they want to be naked, that's their choice.  I wouldn't want to live under a government that would tell me or anyone else they had to cover up their bodies.  I'd rather die than to live in a country that would tell me how to dress my body.  Nakedness does not bother me, but I guess that is just my cultural bias.

The conservative look is so much cuter. Starting to hate American culture now.

I recently visited the middle east, I couldnt help but stare in restaurants watching the women eat. Slowly tucking the food up under the material under the chin into their mouth. From my seat I could see the gulf, looked like a bunch of ninja's wading in the water. I dont mean that to be offensive, I was very intrigued.

There's just so much out there in terms of style with those outfits.  So much color and design and pattern!  How could you not feel beautiful wearing one of those?

  • mileyfan08@xanga

I'm comfortable around people in next to nothing. But I also admire the beauty of those women who dress hijab (I hope I am using the term correctly). Especially the ones who take trends of the day and translate them into a hijab look. And their headscarves are beautiful, too. But pretty much I am comfortable with whatever you want to wear, so long as you aren't wearing spiky stuff that impales me when you sit next to me on the train...

Not too much skin but not too little skin, ya know?  Jeans and a t-shirt everyday for me, and I love it =]

  • pinkdagger@xanga

    I don't think it'd bother me either.

I would much rather see people out and about being fully dressed and covered, especially in something so elegantly crafted, than half naked. I think some girls need to realize the difference between whipping out all "the goods" and walking out of the house as if they'd forgotten to dress themselves after a shower, as opposed to seeing an exposed natural body.

Don't get me wrong - on a smolderingly hot day, I'd rather be half naked, but if I'm going to be seen, I know to be presentable over the epitome that makes so many women objectified. The human body is beautiful, but to have, not to flaunt.

I love those clothes! In Nepal they're called Kurtha Suwals. They make you feel like you're all dressed up, but have the ability to chase kids and feel comfortable by wearing pants.

  • SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga

i really don't care what other people are wearing as long as they are not grossly morbidly obese in a string bikini, and as long as no one is dictating what anyone can and cannot wear.

personally i have no problem wearing what would probably be termed almost nothing...when it's weather appropriate LOL

  • x_vesper@xanga

I'm not comfortable with people walking around half naked... but that's the same with burkas.  I guess it's just the country/culture.

I'm okay showing a little skin, but I don't think showing too much leg while going overboard on the boobage is very classy.  Also, clothes aren't always cut to show off skin; they compliment the stature of the person wearing them.  For example, a skirt with a hem that reaches to the bottom of the fingertips when standing straight reveals quite a bit of leg, but also creates the illusion of being tall[er].

why not have something in between burkas and string bikinis? not everybody walks around in string bikinis, and if they do, you know you're in miami and you can go right ahead and leave. =]

  • mayanao@xanga

    Uh...noooo thank you.

  • fairyfloss2004@xanga

u know theres a lot in between the 2 extremes.

  • keyboarderrr@xanga

i have a weakness for too-short dresses, but i always wear tights.

  • elittlebear@xanga

well, I don't care what other people are wearing and I don't like people mind what other people are wearing. Unfortunately, even in first world country (they think are they are free minded), people will still mind other people business even for what they are wearing.

I'd like to wear QiPao and hanfu.

I don't care if other people wear Saree, Burka or dressing like Lara Croft.

p.s. The 'blue' photo, are they living on desert?

  • MochaSprinkle@xanga

Wow... that's way too much clothing for any one outing. I'm happiest in drawstring gym/lounge pants and a tank top.
@xxthatsmexx@xanga - true that! I'm 5'2" and when I wear longer skirts I feel like I'm trying to make myself look shorter, lol. That said, there are plenty of things I shouldn't wear because of my height, but I do anyways. :)

  • HollywoodTragicScene

I think there's a right and wrong time to show skin. I think its more than okay to wear a bikini at the beach, but that's where it should stay.
