Perhaps it's the eighties child in me, but I love it when my hair has a little extra volume.
The problem is that my locks are really flat. My stylist always tells me to blow dry my hair upside down. My hair does gain volume from this, but it goes back to being flat the next day.
A friend of mine uses Pantene Pro-V Root Lifter to get that extra volume. It works pretty well.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get great volume? What products or techniques do you guys find helpful?

I have problems with too much volume. My hair is curly and frizzy and can be really poofy. Sometimes I can get it to behave but the next day it will be poofy again.
I don't know. I'm "blessed" with wavyish curlyish thick hair that often has the opposite problem -- I'm not sure how to tame it.
Friends I know use root lifters, hairspray, blowdry upside down, all that....
i use a volumizing hairspray first, then blow-dry upside down. then i spray more when i'm done blow-drying, rub a bit of pomade on the ends of my layers, and then just fluff out my hair with my fingertips.....my hair is pretty short though, so you can see the volume easily....
Dang, I have the same problem. My hair is super thin and sometimes I look really sick. All my friends complain about their haircuts looking like "a massacared black dog on the ground" (LOL) but I have the exact opposite problem! People who touch my hair always comment on how thin it is.
I read no bad reviews about B&B thickening spray, and I even majorly splurged to get some, but I haven't had much luck with it. I could be applying it wrong...if anybody has B&B experience, do share, cause I spent waaay too much money to chuck that stuff.
haha. i guess we all want what we don't have. i've finally learned to accept my fine, straight hair. i also am lazy when it comes to fixing my hair. i just wet it down in the morning and put it in a ponytail or let it dry naturally b/c hair dryers and extra hair products ruin my hair/scalp=/
I crimp my already-thick hair for that ridiculous 80's volume. I love it! and surprisingly, I get many compliments.
I use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and Tresemme Flawless Curls Extra Hold Mousse. The mousse is not too heavy or sticky and it gives me just the right amount of volume lift to my semi-wavy hair.
i use the entire pantene volumizing line
then i blowdry my hair upside down
then i add big round curlers to the top sections
also, creamy shampoo's and conditioners weigh your hair down so when it hits spring season switch to a clarifying shampoo ect.
layers also add volume
My hair decides on it's own that it's going to either be medium volume, or super crazy poofy. What I do does not affect it in the least.
Oh well.
a lot of hairspray.
I use Garnier XXL Volume. I spray it at my roots, and hang my head upside down, brush it till it's dried nicely, and then I just tousel my hair until it's big enough, adding more hairspray where I need it or if I want it bigger.
And I do it all without a blowdryer :)
And getting layers helps, too. I got a bunch, and it makes it all easier.
A.G Big Wigg Root Volumizer* its pretty good

i use volumizing hairspray or nothing. i have a lot of hair on my head lol
i dont have that problem, curly hair a blessing and a curse. but i know people who have done the body wave. its more expensive than shampoos though.
You idiots!
Did anyone not think of suggesting TEASING your hair?!
Use a comb and rub it up and down on the roots of your hair.
Spray a little hairspray and then adjust it so it's not clumpy.
i have really thin, naturally super straight hair, and i hate it. it's always flat and i wish i knew how to get volume!
blowdry your hair upside down. =)
You could always try blow drying your hair with warm and then cold air the next day. The warm air makes hair cuticles more pliable and the cold air will help set your hair.
Her hair looks really cute in that pic. I wish I could get my hair to curl. I must be doing something wrong cause every time I try curling my hair w/ a curling iron it never turns out, all it does is curl the ends of my hair...never any big curls like she has in this picture..it sucks!!
I tease the hell out of it. And hairspray. I have very flat hair and it works.
Tease & spray!
Actually... After you shower & your hair is dry... curl it with a curling iron, spray it, then roll it up (make sure you roll up all the way to your roots!) and pin it.. like pin curls. Leave it like that for as long as you can. Take it down and voila!!Â
I have extremely thin hair, and when I blow dry it upside down, it gets TOO poofy. I've found teasing it to be effective, though my hairdresser has warned me that it can damage your hair if you do it too often.
well you  need to wash it everyday if all your doing is blow drying upside down or else its not dong to stay. i would suggest getting aveda products i do hair at an aveda salon and they are always willing to help you find out the perfect solution for your hair... they always can mix them to better fit you. so thats my advice.
