  • Dress Shopping: Is This One Right For My Body Shape?

    Guest blog submitted by niltiaCmAI

I've never been big on dresses. I've always been more comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt (isn't everybody?).

Well, the time has come for me to finally step out of my box and into the unknown: dress shopping. I found a dress that I like online, but I always hear people say that certain dress styles go with certain body types, and I'm not sure if the dress I found (above) would fit my body type. I have more of a pear-shaped body (curvier around the hips than up top).

Do you think this dress would look good on a pear-shaped body? Just to clarify, what are the "rules" of  style/shape connection?

@la_faerie_joyeuse@xanga - Hmm well with ruffles that big, I would think it would add volume and make a busty girl look even bigger on top. I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing though...

I don't think you can know what exactly a dress will look like on you unless you try it on yourself. And it depends on how much bigger your hips are than your top. I'm bigger on the bottom than on the top, but I could probably get away with it because my hips aren't huge in proportion to the rest of my body, they're just bigger than my chest.

I'd say it would work for you if you have the sort of body where you buy the same sized tops and bottoms in the swimsuit separates section, or if there's a one size difference. But if your top is a size 6 and your bottom is a size 10, it probably will emphasize your hips too much, because it's a form-fitting skirt.

I think it would be perfect for you! I was just looking at one online because that style is so cute and i love lace. It would work wonderfully on a pear-shaped body. This is how I can tell:

The pattern and detail accentuates features, so it will doll up you upper half,

and The solid black bottom will be slimming and non-distracting around your hips.

These things together will make you appear to have a more hour-glass figure.
