  • Do I Need To Be A Model To Wear Ankle Boots?

    Guest post submitted by Liera

Today I decided to be adventurous and bought myself my first pair of ankle boots. Yes, impulse buy. But in my defense, there were some big sales at DSW  and I managed to snag this pair of dark brown Franco Sarto ankle boots for 50% off!

This is the closest picture I can find, from Nordstrom. The design is the same, but my heel is thinner and pointier. I'm not a big fan of huge high heels, so these booties are about 1-inch high.

The problem is, I came home to read up on what to wear with ankle boots and discovered that these kinds of shoes can actually make a girl's calves look bigger/wider.  I've seen so many girls in the city wearing booties lately though, and some look really fashionable. I guess I need to do more research; I don't want to have to end up returning these shoes, because I think they look chic and they are very comfortable.

I showed one of my roommates my new shoes and she suggested that I wear them with a short skirt (above the knee) with leggings/tights underneath. Articles online also say that you should not wear longer skirts (below the knee) with ankle boots, especially if your body type is curvier. About.com says these shoes tend to flatter the tall, slim, long-legged, model-esque types. What are the rest of us girls supposed to do?!

Do you own ankle boots? What types of outfits do you wear them with? Do you think anyone can pull them off?
