Guest blog submitted by x___insomniacI see lots of girls with double piercings when I walk around school and the mall, and wonder who or what triggered this trend. Last year, I was bored with my simple pairs and decided to get another pair to spice up my look. I also thought, "Who looks at ears?" Do guys even notice if you have extra piercings? I got my piercings at a local mall and I remember it stinging a little -- like stapling an essay together.
After a couple months, I got bored with my look again. This was when I started seeing more and more girls with double piercings. So, I decided to be bold and get another pair in addition to my four piercings. I was determined to stand out.
I don't know why, but when I started getting into piercings, I became addicted. I recently got my cartilage pierced, adding on to my collection of piercings -- which are all on my ears. I now have a grand total of seven (four on the left ear and three on the right, only one cartilage). I'm stopping there, though. There are too many holes on my ears already!
The cartilage didn't hurt at first and I was like "Oh hey, that wasn't so bad!" But then a few moments later, I started to feel it (yes, the picture above is my real ear).
Anyway, do I have too much? I draw the line at pierced ears. I would never do facial or body piercings.
In my opinion, gauges can be absolutely disgusting. Whenever I see a guy with two gaping holes in his earlobes, I just have this overwhelming feeling of wanting to stick my finger in between the gauge and yank on it. Why do guys want to puncture a chunk of skin out of their earlobe?! If anything, it grosses me out and distracts me from his face. To me, it's not cute.
How much is too much for piercings? Do you have piercings (if so, how many)? What's your opinion on gauges and facial piercings?

I think 2 on each side is ok with 1 more on the cartilage of one ear. More than that becomes........rocker-ish. Anyone over 27 who works in an office..w/ ppl wearing slacks, button-ups, and what not...should take it out.
I only have 1 on each side though. I took the other out as I aged.
agreed. gauges make no sense, are not stylish, and will probably affect more than just their ear when theyre older.
I personally don't like gauges either, but I understand them - they're a statement. And gauging ears is not "punctur{ing} a chunk of skin out of their earlobe;" it's stretching the skin, and kept healthy and small enough, it can shrink back up over time.
@proveyourprowess@xanga - Thank you for clearing up that MOST stretched ears are stretched not punched out holes. And they are not called gauges...gauges is the size of the hole. They are stretched lobes. Mine are currently sitting at 16mm. It is something that has been done for hundreds of years and will be continued to be done for many more. I guess if you like it you like it....if not....well then you don't!
I have 24 piercings right now and have has as many as 30 at one time. 3 of those are skin divers and 1 is a micro dermal implant. It depends on the individual as to how many is too many. To me you can never have too many. I will not judge by the size of your stretched lobes or the amount of piercings you have.
I dont like gauges either...I really dont think theres any point in them...they dont look good...and i only have peircings of 1 in each ear...and im planning on getting my cartiladge on my right ear soon...and that would be it.
So all you ladies think my ears look bad? I mean each to their own but really they don't look BAD?!?!?
I have my ears peirced {just one hole a peice} and I am getting my nose re-peirced, because the stud came out awhile ago and grew over. For me thats enough, but I think that if you want peircings then go for it. Of course when there are Too many it gets a little disturbing, and gauges give me the strong desire to throw things through them, like basketball.
I have 4 holes in one ear, 5 in the other, and my bellybutton pierced... so far. I want to get my industrial done in the ear lacking the cartlidge piercing. I also really want my lip done! On guys, I think gauging looks alright as long as the holes aren't like.. 5 inches big. That's where you draw the line. Otherwise, pierce away! I love piercings. (:
I have multiple piercings, which include 3 stretched piercings in each ear. I even used to have a 14g barbell connecting two parts of my cartilage on my right ear (called an industrial by the way).
I really have no opinion either way. It is a personal statement, that person's personal statement. This world is judgmental enough without adding in what you think about other's decisions to either be pierced or not.
i personally love piercings.
right now i have 3 in each ear. i used to have a belly ring and i had both my nipples pierced. If they didnt hurt so bad i'd pierce them again lol. i also want my nose pierced but i'll have to wait until i move out so my parents don't kill me lol
uuummm.. WOW... guys aren't the only ones who have gauged ears I'm female and i have 20 piercings and i plan on getting WAY more. i have 7 on each ear and each one is gauged i also have my right eyebrow pierced twice, i have my septum, labret, nape (back of my neck) and my nipple done as well. "Why do guys want to puncture a chunk of skin out of their earlobe?!" first of all not everyone gets they're ears "punctured" or as the correct term.. punched. i stretched my piercings. i love my piercings and quite frankly i don't care if people think i have "too much" or if I'm fashionable enough for society to look at or not. if people are going to discriminate against me because of my piercings then so be it. if they can't see past my body mods then in my opinion they're not worth my time. not everyone has the same interests and/or style as others. getting piercings just because you see other girls that have more than you is pretty contradicting. you said you wanted to "stand out" yet.. you wanted "double piercings" just like all the other girls you saw. how does that even make sense? but the people who actually DO stand out...your against? in my opinion body mods can be very pretty and a good form of expression. i think they ARE fashionable and very nice too look at. and to one of the girls who commented before "oOBuBBLes711Oo@xanga" "rocker-ish" isnt even a word and it doesnt make sense at all. rock is a genre of MUSIC not a person or group of people. i listen to rock, metal, punk and lots of other types of music. whats wrong with rock? and another thing... just because you wear a suit doesn't mean you cant have piercings. thats like your boss saying you cant be blond or a red head. or maybe even a co-worker saying "you shouldn't work here because your nails are to long" WHO THE HELL CARES?! how can PIERCINGS bother you THAT much? GET OVER IT. its their body not yours. i hate when people feel the need to discriminate against things THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT. but... i guess thats why they do it. out of ignorance. GROW UP. get over it. theyre JUST piercings : )
@Bautifulfreak@xanga - haha thats so crazy i have 20 piercings and i'm getting a few more for Christmas.. i wanted to get a micro. but not to many people do them by me. how did that go?
2 in each ear is enough for me. Nothing near cartilage. I want to keep it a little above nice and simple. :)
No body piercings please. :)
I have a piercing in each ear. I want to get a tongue ring, like in Thirteen. I think it looks sexy.
I also want to get a nose ring, but I would have it be a stud, and something unique, not just a diamond, either a shape or another type of gem (if possible ... I don't know. maybe there's a reason why people only get diamonds?)
I want to get a bellybutton ring. if possible, I would get a red stone.
I wouldn't get a gauge because I don't like them.
i would say JUST EAR LOBES. no cartilage. i personally think its tacky. its harder to look sophisticated with a whole lot of piercings.
I have 3 holes: ears single, and my left eyebrow. I don't think anyone should tell anyone how many holes they should have in their body and I don't think it should stop at the ears.
Honestly, when it comes to piercings, I grew up with the notion that it's all about modesty, thanks to my mother. She insisted that only one piercing per ear was more than enough.
When I got my second holes on both ears done, she was extremely unhappy and unsatisfied with what I had done. I was punished as they came out uneven (so I am now waiting for them to close up so that I may get them re-done, although I never used them anyway).
I wouldn't mind a third per ear, but seeing it as how I have small ears, it would be overkill.
Now I just got my nose pierced a couple months ago while I was away from home and at school in NY. It took me a while to muster up the will and courage to get it done (knowing full well how much my mother would strongly disagree). I only wanted a tiny stud, nothing more and ended up getting it. I was rather hesitant about it afterward but after only hearing how great it looked on me, I was more than satisfied and now, adore it.
I remember the minute the guy stabbed my nose, instantly a wave of endorphins were released and at that moment I already was instantaneously thinking about what piercing I wanted to get next. I then understood why people say piercings are addicting. But I managed to calm myself down and told myself, NO MORE! For the one on my nose was already a pretty BIG deal.
Well recently my friend got her cartilage done and it looks hot. I used to want it but got over it. Now that I see hers, and how good it looks, I do want to get mine done. The only thing I'm hesitant about is whether or not it would look good on my ear. We shall seeeee! :D
Btw, I toads agree about gauges. They're absolutely horrendous.
I think you can have as meany piercings as you like and it won't be too much. It's all about self expression and if you like it then that's all that matters. Even people with like fifty face piercings. while that might not look so great to me it doesn't matter one bit what I think because they got it for themselves. I only have three piercings(ears) and one tattoo but I plan on getting more. If you don't want to go past your ears that is SO okay. Do what YOU are comfortable with. ^_^
Piercings is a thing of the individual. You either like it, or you don't. You either go for the trendy piercings: (cartiledge, belly button) or more extreme: (labret, septum, conch). None are disgusting. If the person likes it and is happy with it, whatever. I'm not one to judge.
Piercings has also been a fashion of the past. I got my second lobe piercing just in the fifth grade. In Qeen's Elizabeth's time, people were getting more private piercings, aristocrats. It's just becoming more acceptable.
I myself have 6 lobe piercings (three on each ear), cartilage on the right ear, conch and industrial on the left ear. That's a total of ten piercings. I also have one lobe piercing gauged a little more than the normal size (standard gauges for majority of piercings are 14-18 gauge). I have it gauged big enough to keep me happy but small enough not to be noticeable and to close it some day. I used to have a rook piercing on my right ear, vertical labret, and a stud on my left nostril.
Yeah...piercings can be addicting.
i have one hole in each ear thanks to my mother.
i remember wanting a second hole so badly.
and now i hardly even wear earrings.
i plan on getting my belly button pierced.
after i move out tho. so my parents dont kill me.
I LOVE Piercings. Had my ears pierced since I was an infant. Started gauging my ears somewhere around 3 years ago. But stopped because they fell out and had no money to keep going. I also don't really like wearing earrings.
I think gauged ears are amazing. If you don't go too large.
I've had the side of my lip pierced since last year. I love it but I want something different. So for my birthday next month I'm getting vertical snake bites. I also plan on getting an industrial piercing sometime after && who knows what else I'll want later in life.
:P
I don't have piercings, but I think they should pretty much stick to the ears...I think cartilage can look nice, but no gauges--it is a tad freaky to see THROUGH someone's ear. Really, I'm not gonna hate you if you have other piercings, but I honestly have to warn some of you that once you get out into the work world, some of those piercicngs aren't going to be so acceptable. Yes, it may seem like "expression" now, but go apply for a serious job with gauges and a tongue ring, or any sort of big "statement", and i can guarentee you that it will be tough to get a job. You may luck out with a boss who doesn't care, but that doesn't happen too often. If you want a bunch of piercings, I'd recommend staying away from holes that are too big to go unnoticed at least. Sorry to be the "voice of reason" here.
Haha, when I started getting piercings last year I became totally obsessed. But I didn't like the idea of having a ton of facial piercings, or oddly placed ones, so there wasn't much to do. I had my eyebrow, nose, and lip pierced.. along with my ears having three on both sides at one point. I decided that looked pretty terrible, so I took out all except one piercing on each ear and my nose piercing; it's a little diamond stud. *shrug* I'm thinking of getting my navel done next year, though.
I think gauges are pretty gross. But to each their own. We all have a different idea of what is too much & what's disgusting.
I mean, to each his own, but I wouldn't put any piercings on my body other than my ears. I had a tongue ring once, but I do believe that I would have taken it out probably before I went to college. I had 3 pairs of piercings once. But, it became a hassle to match up 3 sets so I took one out and went back to just 2 pairs in each ear. I plan on getting a cartilage in September. I'm not a fan of any nipple rings or piercings down there though. I guess it all depends on what you do with your life. Obviously if you plan on working on Wall Street, getting snake bites and brow rings aren't exactly the most professional attires.
just a little information, girls.
gauges are not a chunk of ear skin being removed, lol. its just stretching the original hole. and they go back to normal  (if they are less than a 0 gauge) when they take the plugs out.so whatever.
