  • This Site Is Shallow?

    Featured Comment:

This is a response to "What Makes You Feel Pretty?"

Pretty isn't the same as beautiful. Just like what @IfonEarth@xanga said, pretty is superficial. Lovelyish doesn't promote real beauty, maybe it does but in the most minimal content. You usually focus on fashion and make-up, but who's to blame? That's how people perceive beauty now, that's what they think beauty is. (-bottledsunshine)

Is there something intrinsically superficial in the word "beauty"? What would a non-superficial beauty website look like (ie would it feature makeup, fashion, beauty products, etc)? What entries would you like to see on Lovelyish?

Beautiful is art, and emotion. Beauty is not pretty hair, and makeup, and cool clothes. Beauty is that thing that's inside you, that special something that just makes you glow.

  • ccarothers@xanga

I think beauty speaks to something a lot deeper than pretty can touch.  You can be very pretty, but have no real beauty.  Or you can be pretty, but not understand your beauty.  Beauty has always been something other people can rest in...

  • skinnychic8@xanga

I personally love the posts on the makeup and hair. Lovelyish has great posts and I wouldn't change them. Beauty can be natural or made up with makeup....we all have different definitions of physical beauty. I think the comment left by the particular user was only their personal opinion, and that it only represents some of the Lovelyish readers.

Just my thoughts. Have a lovely day!

  • simply_steffy@xanga

I would like to see more posts about what type of people there are on lovelyish not just about make up and blah blah blah...why does make up make who we are?

  • ThinkAchieve@xanga

For the most part, I think Lovelyish is on the right track. Keep doing what you're doing.  You can't please everyone.

But to stay on topic, I think adding articles with a small application or tutorial would be good.  For instance, when you guys wrote on cleaning makeup brushes with shampoo, I thought that was helpful because that's something I can remember to do back at home.

So, overall, my suggestion would be to add something that we can try doing ourselves after reading your article.

    Keep up the good work.

You know how they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?" Beauty can encompass so many different things, it's difficult to really pinpoint exactly what it is. Having beauty = beautiful, but men can also be quite beautiful (I know a few, hubba hubba!) Don't let it get to you too much. Hm, maybe that will be my first official full post!!

  • misstakable@xanga

I like Lovelyish   maybe I'm shallow too LOL
    oh well

  • emersonien_era@xanga

I don't think this site is necessarily shallow. It's just a blog, which is supposed to serve the same purpose as a group of friends having a conversation, which can be about anything. Do you and your girlfriends always talk about how models are stick-thin and how it's a detriment to society? No, occasionally you talk about a good concealer one of you found, or what kind of skirts you buy to hide your hips. This site promotes material objects, but it's not saying they're the only thing that makes someone beautiful.

  • moinksmoinks@xanga

beauty to me is about feeling clean and healthy. something along the line of no or minimal makeup, with healthy glowing skin.

so far im loving the make up tips, shopping tips, fashion fads et cetera. its like a fashion mag, only with more depth and explores even deeper issues like eating disorders blah blah.

  • justagirl_lostintranslation@xanga

@skinnychic8@xanga - I agree with skinnychic, and feel the same way.  I don't want Lovelyish to change.

  • Faith14@xanga

Beauty has become a superficial word because of the connotation society has given it.  Otherwise..a word is just a word...it means whatever you decide it means.  What else would you put on a beauty blog?  Stories of acts of kindness?  Seriously...  These make up tips don't hurt either..

  • DEB_DEBRA@xanga

Beauty is whatever how people perceived it to be. Some are superficial, some are meaningful. We all have different opinions, and like some said, you just can't please everyone.

  • Alex_Horschack@xanga
  • x_anabell_x@xanga

what's the difference between pretty and beauty?

  • pureboy123@xanga

hehe, I know both those characters.
    Very smart woman.
My 2 cents is too long to post up.
I talked about how beauty is used insufficiently in a post of mine.
    Maybe that helps...

    Popularity is this.
You give people what they want.

Therefore, if people want to read up and think make-up is "beautiful" then that's what will be featured and that's what will be read.

    I'm a contrary fellow

  • pureboy123@xanga

@x_anabell_x@xanga - do u think u (or other people or celebrities) are pretty or beautiful?

  • wolvenchic@xanga

At most its a informational with stuff like rice bunny, or with a couple of updates oon latest fashions and the ups and downs of those fashions. There is nothing shallow about that. It is when you start degrading a beautiful person and calling them ugly that it becomes shallow

  • simplecandor@xanga

i usually use the word pretty to describe someone's looks.

i use "beautiful" to describe the person wholly.

  • simplecandor@xanga

oh oops. and i want to see more how tos rather than giveaways.

  • pillowpixies@xanga
I love how everyone happens to be saying "Beauty is _______" and "Beauty is not ________" when beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We all have different ideas of what is beautiful, and what isn't. We all have different ideas about what makes something or someone beautiful, and vice versa. So, if someone thinks a child playing in the rain is beautiful, so be it. If someone thinks a woman wearing makeup is beautiful, so be it. Wanting to be pretty isn't superficial. The ones who think it is superficial... well, either they're hypocrites, or they don't EVER try to make themselves look better.
  • xiaosnowtenshi@xanga

Personally, I like that Lovelyish is more about "superficial" beauty. If I wanted to learn how to be beautiful on the inside, I can get that from most of the blogs I'm subbed to.

  • soyymilk@xanga

    I.. really don't care.
    If I didn't like Lovelyish, I wouldn't be subscribed, would I? (:

Just keep doing what you do, guys.
I like learning about new ways to wear clothes, or what kinds of makeup to buy because they are better than others. I mean, if I didn't see it here, I'd probably have to ask my friends or my mom about it anyway.

Websites are always going to be superficial. The whole world is superficial. If Lovelyish WASN'T superficial, we'd be reading about beavers or the natural beauty of the Grand Canyons or something like that.

    So whatever.
Hey, I know what beauty is already.
    Everyone else here does too.

But I wanna read about other things.

  • lil_miss_pumpkin@xanga

I like Lovelyish the way it is.  I find it helpful with some of the advice.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if there is one post you don't agree with, then just ignore it or whatever.  There's no need to leave negative feedback unless its just something that like really hit home or something.  Anyways keep doing what you do!

  • dazzlezlizella@xanga

beauty is from within us. our way of speech and gesture towards others. pretty is just being on the outward look, we could always use anything to make ourselves look pretty.

lovelyish is a medium to share anyone's experience about fashion and makeups. something which helps those who are looking into the trend, economical price, good catch of products etc... it fits the purposes/objectives. (:

  • onetruelove

“Let your beauty not be external - the braiding of hair and wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes - but the INNER PERSON  of the HEART, the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious in the God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4

Beauty is fleeing. Let's face it ladies... one day we're all going to grow wrinkly and have gray hair. But one thing will NEVER change and that is the beauty of our character. Nothing is wrong with being beautiful on the outside, but one should focus more on making one's heart beautiful because that is lasting. Outward beauty is not forever.

Society today tells women that beauty is defined by how thin you are, the color hair you have, how dark your skin is, and your ability to apply makeup in the right way. In a world plagued by supermodel idols, eating disorders, and perfect celebs in fashion magazines, the truth is simply this: true beauty comes from within your spirit.
