  • Wear Makeup Without Clogging Pores

    Guest blog submitted by oct76

Nothing makes me more self-conscious than having acne on my face. I want to cover up with makeup, but makeup clogs my pores causing more breakouts. If you are like me and have oily, acne-prone skin then you'll want to wear makeup that won't clog your pores. I found a great makeup product that won't clog my pores and allows me to even wear it over my acne medicine. What you're looking for is non-comedogenic makeup. Non-comedogenic makeup will not clog your pores, making you susceptible to break outs. So the next time you are checking out a new product for your face, make sure it states that it is non-comedogenic or you can also look for the term non-occlusive.

After trying many different products, I found that Bare Escentuals' Bare Minerals worked for me. It is a mineral powder that goes on lightly.

But if you're looking for a cheaper drug store brand.., I recommend Almay's Clear Complexion Collection.

    Almay Clear Complexion concealer

Do you have oily skin and find that it's hard to find makeup that works with it? Do you worry makeup will clog your pores?

just make sure you exfoliate :o)  no matter what you use, you're still "covering" your face, hence clogging your pores.  as long as you clean/wash your face, you should be fine.  i have very sensitive skin and ive been using bare minerals for about 1 1/2 years now and it works great.  it almost feels like im not wearing any make up

Neutrogena powder mineral sheers seems to work better for me. It's not flaky in texture, and it provides coverage that's natural looking. It's also non-comodegenic, oil-free, and fragrance-free. There are no parabens either.

Ok, So there seems like there are a lot of different products for your face that is good for someone. Thanks for the advice. However, I do want to know: what kind of foundation is better, the powder or liquid?

    Note me back.

I have a very oily t-zone and I have to use clean & clear oil blotting sheets (which work fabulously) every other hour. but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. oh and I also loveee bare minerals, except my skin is very fair, and even the palest shade is too dark for me, so I can't use it :[ I currently use Loreal Bare Naturale mineral foundation, which is basically the same exact thing, but cheaper<3

I have combination skin, so I always go for makeup that's non-clogging. Mineral stuff is great, but be aware that BareMinerals has bismuth, which can cause allergic reactions in a lot of people, and even breakouts. Some mineral makeup, however, does not, like Everyday Minerals.

    i L-O-V-E bare escentuals!

Bare minerals doesn't produce makeup in my skin color, so unfortunately that's out for me.

I love my bare escentuals!  not only the bare minerals but nearly the entire line of products.  my skin glows and i rarely have breakouts of any kind.  i can sleep in it without worry if i forget to remove my makeup and it's very rare that someone actually knows i'm wearing makeup anyways.  the buxom lip glosses are fabulous, too!  definitely worth a try for anyone considering...

    I like makeup forever HD.

It cant clog pores because the silicone molecules are too big.

    plus it doesn't oxidize.

I have oily skin but I have no problems with using any products.

I was a big fan of Bare Minerals until I found that it made my face feel heavy and sweaty and just plain uncomfortable.  This is because it has bismuth in it.  I've actually switched to a brand calld Youth minerals which works just as beautifully without that yucky feeling.

i have very oily skin and it seems to not matter what makeup i try, its still fairly oily. i've also tried every face wash and still nothing reduces the amount of excretions. also, i cannot wear pencil eyeliner or it creases and half of it comes off so i have to wear liquid. anyway, does anyone know of any great face washes to put a limit on oils and also a way to rid of black heads?

The Almay's Clear Complexion concealer actually caused me to break out, but everyone's skin is different. Revlon colorstay concealer(hard to find) works very well to cover up spots and doesn't cause more.

I find for my oily skin what worked best is actually applying moisturizer every morning and night. It is good to have good hydration in your skin, just good moisture rather than oil. For my skin, the moisturizer actually reduced the amount of excess oil on my skin. :)

neutregena clear skin face powder works amazing it has .5 stylic acid in it so it gets rid of stuff and doesnt clog skin

  • x___insomniac@xanga

I like Maybelline's powder foundation as well as Aveda's concealer and pressed powder.

You are lucky that you are not breaking out from using Bare Minerals! I have been using Bare Minerals for a year, and since then have had horrible, painful cystic acne and deep scars as a result all over my face. I could never figure out why I was getting cystic acne. That's when I did my research and found out that one of Bare Minerals' key ingredient is bismuth oxychloride. The chemical is is very bad for your skin, especially for those who are very sensitive, like mine.

There are mineral powders out there that do not use harmful chemicals like bismuth oxychloride. I recommend Every Day Minerals.

i like bare minerals, but it rubs off really easily.  One swipe of a tissue over your face, and its there...

is it just me, or does that happen to you fellow BM users?
