  • Do You Use Organic Makeup?

    By Erica@Lovelyish

I swear by natural and organic everything. I'm so paranoid, I almost have to know everything I'm eating/touching/using or I'd probably have an anxiety attack. This is why I'm loving the sudden outburst of everything becoming organic, natural and all around better for you. A previous post mentioned "tree-hugger fashions" so alas, I am bringing you all "tree hugger face products."

I know, I know. But anything to gush about how I love organic things...

    Burt's Bees
I'm pretty sure everyone I know (including me) is obsessed with the lip balm Burt's carries. All natural and effective - what's not to like about BB?

Dan Read Cosmetics' Soft Ivory Foundation
DRC offers a plethora of makeup but this is what I use from his line. Let me tell you, I am one picky
person when it comes to foundation. In lieu of my other foundation I use, I picked up and must have stared
at my mirror for a good fifteen minutes after applying it. I couldn't feel anything, I couldn't see anything caked on,
but all of a sudden every blemish was gone. It's going to be a sad day when this stuff runs out.

    Bare Minerals/Escentuals
I swear by this makeup. I practically have an anxiety attack when it's running low.
It's organic, and it won't make your face break out. It's not cakey, and it stays on all day!
This is becoming just as popular as Burt's Bees.

In addition to these products, there are many other options.
NVEY, an Australian makeup house, just produced their line of organic cosmetics titled ECO by NVEY
I've tried this on at Macy's and liked what I saw.

There's also a whole plethora of organic products ranging from hair and skin care to makeup in any Trader Joes or Whole Foods. If you're near one of these stores, I recommend you check them out asap!

Don't forget some people are so cautious as to what goes on their face, they're making their own products with their own hands! I found a great list of homemade facial masks on this site; some sound so good, you want to eat them.

Do you use organic products? Which ones do you recommend? Have you tried any of the ones mentioned here? What about homemade facial masks?

I'm a home remedy nut case, some I've created and others I've heard about and modified.

I make homemade facials. One that's nice is honey, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix 1 tbsp honey with 1 tbsp nutmeg, and add some lemon juice. Rub it on your face and leave it for 20 minutes. Do this twice a week. Lemon juice is a natrual and very mild bleach in sorts so it reduces the sight of blemishes. Nutmeg amoung other characteristics is fabled to reduce acne scars new and old...and the honey part still gets me but my skin glows therefore I'm not complaning.

If you have puffy eyes you can put tea bags on them. Green tea is effective but chamomile works the best because of it's natural ability to calm. In fact soaking a rag into chamomile tea and laying it over your face can reduce redness and soothe any irritation your face might have.

I am an organic fanatic...I agree with the whole idea of whatever i put on my skin should be natural and not filled with chemicals and colorings...Natural shampoos were hard to find, because i am quite fussy about my hair and it can be crazy, but i found a good pomegranate honey natural hair shampoo that is amazing....

if i could only find a few more options for organic face products to test out, i would be a happy soul.
loved the post. i am glad that there are more people that are becoming aware of the fact that what they put on their body is just as important as what goes in it....

i'm the one who told all of my friends, my mom's friends,  and my family about the cosmetic ingredient safety database online, and got my friends to look at the ingredients on their sunblock and makeup and avoid the really nasty stuff...and gave everyone burt's bees as presents LOL

i like avalon organics shampoo and tom's of maine sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate free toothpaste! thank god someone finally started making SLS-free toothpaste because i am slightly allergic to SLS and brushing my teeth with regular toothpaste gives me an allergic reaction >_<

I love Burt's Bees but sadly Bare Minerals makes me break out so I've stopped using it as coverup. I heard Laura Mercier was better although is she organic? Not sure lol. I do love Bare Mineral's limited ruby kit btw and lip glosses --so awesome and I can't wait to sport the look at a gala or something!

@Random_Goldfish@xanga - you should submit a post for this! I know a lot of readers would appreciate these useful remedies! :)

@The_Prestigiator@xanga - Well, we'll just see where the weekend takes me then, huh? I might be clicking away on my keyboard.

I love organic makeup!  I recently switched and people have noticed that my skin has gotten so much better.   I use the "cheap" stuff too...Physician's Formula.

i love everyday minerals! it's similar to bare escentuals, but most of my friends prefer everyday minerals because there are plenty of shades to choose from, and i didn't get a reaction from my sensitive skin. it's also a lot more affordable.

i'm pretty sure Bare Minerals isn't organic and that it can make your face breakout. A better alternative is PurMinerals.

Anyway- I too, am an organic fanatic. I have moderate acne and since I stopped using synthetic chemicals on my body it has pretty much completely cleared.

I love Burt's Bees!! Its a life saver! Before I discovered it, I've only been able to use Vaseline Lip Therapy, I love that too but its nice to have something different with BB. All that other stuff, I swear, makes my lips swell and sometimes blister. I used to wear all kinds of stuff when I was in middle school, I was big on Lip Smackers, and lip gloss. But one morning I woke up to my lips twice the normal size, some women might appreciate that, but it was awkward and uncomfortable. Anyway, I've been sensitive to lip products somewhere since 7-8th grade. But haven't had a reaction to BB yet. I love the Replenishing with pomegranate!
