Guest blog submitted by CrissySomedaysYou need at least one night to complete this look.
- Blow-dry your damp hair for about 5 minutes (use any products you need: hair-spray, frizz serum, curl enhancer, etc).
- Put your hair into a ponytail, high or low.
- Get some bobby-pins ready and grab small to medium sections.
- Twist that section around and roll it into a spiral (with ends underneath) and upwards towards your head.
- Pin it down! I had about 4-5 sections done.
- Do the rest of your hair. Add accessories, etc. Done!
Mine is done a bit messy:
At the end of the day, take the pins out and sleep on the hair.
Then, carefully take your hair out of the ponytail...
Voila! Waves and curlies!
I can't curl my hair well so this is a good alternative for me.
Do you have any other ways to curl your hair without a hot tool? Would/have you tried his way?

Looks nice, but you should offer more details on how to do it for the direction-impaired, like me >.<
If my hair wasn't naturally curly, I would totally try this. Looks great :D
i have to use a straightener to curl my hair.. it won't react to anything else.Â
and what if you have a lot of hair... i can't get a section of my hair to pin up like that because my hair's down to my hips.
that's pretty cool!
but my hair is naturally curly, so i don't have to worry about it
Okay I would to do that...but I am not sure I understand how to do it ....How do you put it up again
you shouldnt really sleep with hair products on
That's neat!
But my hair is a lot thicker and tougher; nothing but heat will get curls on my head ! =|
That's a good idea... I have like Sherly Temple curls so I really don't have to worry, but when I do curl my hair I usually use my straightner.
if you want just waves, braid your hair into really small sections when wet and blow dry or let it air dry.
oh yeah...and the smaller the sections/the tighter you twist and wrap it, the tighter the curls.
very cute, I'll have to try it on my daughter
Wow. Your results turned out a lot better than I was expecting.
I think it might be a lot more difficult with other hair types.Lucky you :)
when I was a kid, my mom used to roll my hair in about 30-40 sponge rollers--the pink sponge ones that clipped. They hurt so bad to sleep on but I had awesome curls in the morning!!
that looks great!
i've done sponge curlers before, but you can get that effect with "rag rollers" which is just a piece of cloth (1" by 4") and you roll your hair up on it, then tie it in a knot. then you sleep on it and it doesn't hurt!
and makes awesome curls
wow thats pretty neat way to do curls, my hair is naturally curly so i have the opposite problem which is how to straighten it.
It looks amazing! I'll make sure I'll try it out when my hair grows. Thanks for the tip!
that's a nice back view of the curls, but how do they look from the front? since you suggested to tie your hair in a ponytail before pinning the curls down, i'd imagine that there'd be a crease from where the rubber band was, and that can be awkward :/
more pics plz? :D
When I was younger I had straighter hair so I would put product in my hair at night and do 1-5 braids. In the morning take out the braids and lightly scrunch the hair.
My hair's already super curly, but your faux-curl makes me envious. I love it.Â
what a cool idea!
@KrazyAMANDA@xanga - there was no crease. i'll take some more pictures when I do it again. my hair is still 'curly' from that haha
wow cool! That's like my hair, my hair can do some amazing things. :) It's naturally wavy and coarse so whenever I twist my hair into a bun (which is pratically EVERYDAY) and if the bun accidently falls into a ponytail it looks like it's one big curl. Everyone always asks me how I get it to do that... and if I seperate it, it looks like a bunch of curls and looks like i curled it that day. Some days I can get it to do different types of waves and curls. I love it when I can get to be big waves that don't looks messy and it looks like i actually put some effort into it. lol. :P
But to be honest, I don't own a curling iron. I don't even REMEMBER the last time I had one. Might have been...maybe... 10 years ago. haha! :P
DAMN COOOL!!!
should show more intermediate steps, though :(
