Guest blog submitted by BettyThe holiday season is here! Tis' the season to celebrate, and this year I've been invited to a couple of holiday events for work, church and family. For the past four years, I've always worn the same black wrap dress (very Diane Von Furstenbergish) and added sparkly bangles, necklaces and earrings with various strappy heels to holiday parties. However, this year I want to bust out of my usual mold and try something new, something colorful.
I'm notorious for procrastinating, but I'm trying hard not to do that this year. Please help me choose a holiday party dress.
Something to keep in mind: I'm 27 years old, 5'5, and dislike strapless or arm-bearing looks (I don't mind using a bolero or cardigan to coverup). The events I'll be attending are an office party, church banquet and family dinner at a restaurant. These are the dresses I've found so far:
1. Twolive Tree Angel Wing DressThis dress is more avant-garde than what I would usually wear, but I love the V-neck and the rich color. I have some really beautiful vintage, gold jewelry that would go perfectly with this dress.
2. Banana Republic Wool Knit Dress$150
I could see myself wearing this dress throughout the winter and spring, not just for holiday parties. I wouldn't rock it with boots like the model, but instead a pair of black, 3.5 inch sling-blacks. I like the idea of wearing several thin long necklaces with the dress.
3. Anthropologie Country Mile Dress $118
It's hard to tell, but the dress has a great shirred bust and shoulder that gives it the perfect amount of detail to not be boring. It has a long sash to tie in the back. I would pair this with a black embroidered pashmina I wear for special occasions to give me some shoulder coverage.

dress number 1 is to DIE for!!!! seriously!!! its the cutest!
hard to say, since you only gave your height and dislike of arm-baring...having no idea of figure doesn't help. :\
number 1 is nice, but unless you've got the legs for it, i would avoid it.
i like 2 the best, you can dress it up or down and the style looks good on most people.
number 3 is a very nice dress, but i'd hate to see that lovely neckline covered up with a pashmina...idk how it'd look.
i definitely like 4 (because it would be a good choice for that wedding you mentioned), as long as you have the figure for it (I am about your height and i would hesitate on that one, even though i really like it)
I like 1 b/c it's interesting and I do so love unique pieces. That aside, 3 is also very classic if 1 is a bit too much for you.
#3.
#1 would make anyone appear bigger on top, and #2 looks like something you could get anywhere and wear for any occasion...and #4 just looks too long-almost a bit like a bridesmaid dress.
number 4.
I like #2, but I LOVE #3!
#3 or #1
4!
I like number three best but it depends on if you can find an occasion to wear it again. :) Four might work best for that purpose, and it looks warmer too.
NUMBER 3
#1~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its stunning, definitely has wow factor
4 looks hard to wear, 2 completely outdated...those sleeves are terrible, and 3 unoriginal
I like the Banana Republic one. :]
definitely #1. the #2 looks like something Pam from The Office would wear. #3 is cute but it might be to dressy for the events you're attending. And #4, who looks good in satin? at least #1 is stylish enough that you can wear it to an event or a date later on.Â
3 gets my vote, but i do also like 1.
#3 anthropologie for sure!!
I like number 3 =D
oh definitely 3
I really do love dress #1.
The only problem I have with it the sleeve. That type of sleeve, in my experience, looks rather oddon those who are petite. Since petite people typically haveshort arms, I feel the sleeves will make them appear even shorter.Recently, I feel in love with purple!I like the dress from Anthropologie, but that particular shade of purple isn't as classic as the eggplant of the Nordstrom dress.Someone pointed out that tight, rigid fabric doesn't look good on anyone, but after reading the description, the dress is sheer, so it shouldn't be a problem.I'd go with the Nordstrom dress. If you have the time, you should go visit the stores and try the dresses on. Whenever I buy anything without trying it on, even though it looks great on the rack or in the picture, it ends up not being as flattering on me as I had hoped it would.
i like number 1
Number 4 is the most elegant and mature. it will definitely make you stand out. Number 3 is quite romantic and cute but I prefer Number 4 for the office party. You can always get both
.
2 or 3 if you want something you can keep on wearing.
I'd just say stay away from number 4. The fabric is shiny, which isn't always flattering.
i love number 3!! it's so cute and my favorite color! = )
3 and 4
#1! 2 and 3 aren't trendy enough to promise a fun night.
without a doubt 3
