Guest blog submitted by BettyThe holiday season is here! Tis' the season to celebrate, and this year I've been invited to a couple of holiday events for work, church and family. For the past four years, I've always worn the same black wrap dress (very Diane Von Furstenbergish) and added sparkly bangles, necklaces and earrings with various strappy heels to holiday parties. However, this year I want to bust out of my usual mold and try something new, something colorful.
I'm notorious for procrastinating, but I'm trying hard not to do that this year. Please help me choose a holiday party dress.
Something to keep in mind: I'm 27 years old, 5'5, and dislike strapless or arm-bearing looks (I don't mind using a bolero or cardigan to coverup). The events I'll be attending are an office party, church banquet and family dinner at a restaurant. These are the dresses I've found so far:
1. Twolive Tree Angel Wing DressThis dress is more avant-garde than what I would usually wear, but I love the V-neck and the rich color. I have some really beautiful vintage, gold jewelry that would go perfectly with this dress.
2. Banana Republic Wool Knit Dress$150
I could see myself wearing this dress throughout the winter and spring, not just for holiday parties. I wouldn't rock it with boots like the model, but instead a pair of black, 3.5 inch sling-blacks. I like the idea of wearing several thin long necklaces with the dress.
3. Anthropologie Country Mile Dress $118
It's hard to tell, but the dress has a great shirred bust and shoulder that gives it the perfect amount of detail to not be boring. It has a long sash to tie in the back. I would pair this with a black embroidered pashmina I wear for special occasions to give me some shoulder coverage.

i like them all!! but #2 and #3 can be worn all year round with different accessories, so they would be a good investment.
i like #3 the best though

But I like the whole tights and dress look (number #1) it looks so perfect for holiday parties!

i like 3 and 4
but i'd say go for number 4. i think it's sophisticated enough/not tooo casual to be worn at other events. the other dresses look a tad too casual to me.

I like the one from Anthropologie best. It's very versatile, a great cut that would be flattering on most people, and the color is gorgeous.

The anthroplogie dresss gets my vote. It looks like it would be a flattering shape on anyone. I have worked for Banana Republic for a year and have been helping people pick out holiday dresses for both years. The one you picked out from Banana is very pretty but not my favorite! wheres all the love for dress #1? that dress is amazing - very holiday inspired and very classy. on top of that it's unique and not something anyone else will have. gorgeous dress! go with number one!
but second choice I would pick #2.. that's a far second choice though.
and I really hate dress 4.. I think the length is weird and the satiny body-tight fabric is NEVER flattering.. I mean, unless you're really ridiculously skinny.. but even then I don't think it would look good. it reminds me of something my grandma would wear, but not back in her stylish days - I mean when she was 80.
I guess I'm really opinionated on this one. haha
Personally I like number 4, purple is in. Numbers 2 and 3 are very similar, and are kind of safe options in my opinion so i would leave them even though they are nice i don't think they are right, kind of last season tbfrank. Number 1 is lovely too, but its more of a daytime dress in my eyes. Buy number 1 or 4 and wear them to the supermarket if you don't where them to your party. Topshop has some lovely dresses at the moment so look in there too, if you havent already.
What ever dress you decide on have a nice night regardless.

if you go for four get a ft of lenght taken off it will look better then, let me know what you decide on in the end

I think 4 is the most elegant, and suitable for the winter season. 2 is also nice.
In my opinion 2 and 3 are the prettiest as well as the most versatile. I can't say I'm really a fan of 1, but 4 is alright.
3 is my favorite,but i like 1 too!
