Short Hair on Women = Ugly?
Guest blog submitted by JustFloatinBy
I got a hair cut recently. It does not touch my shoulders, but it's still long enough to style rather easily (it's a cross between a pixie cut and a bob). I've gotten a mix of reviews on my new look but I have to say that about 90% of comments were positive. To me, my hair looks much better than it had before. I found long hair (it used be around waist-length) to be oily and hard to maintain.
Now it looks healthy, shiny and flatters my facial shape more than my long hair did. My peers agreed; it was an improvement on my former look. I went from getting little attention from the opposite sex to even getting a little too much attention.
But the other 10%? Let's just say they were either rude or ridiculous. I was even told that I looked undignified and unwomanly. I've also been told I look like a boy and even just plain ugly.
Naturally, I was a little offended at these comments but brushed them aside. I felt much better with my new look and wasn't going to let anyone else's opinion offset that.
Do you think short hair on women isn't flattering? Would you ever cut your hair that short?

i can't wear short hair, personally, because i have a baby face. but i love pixie cuts :)
Well you picked a bunch of women that aren't necessarily attractive anyway to me but whatever. XD
Some girls look amazing with short hair, and some don't, it really depends on the person. I think that short hair is pretty cute on a girl depending on the type of cut and their facial structure. It's more of a bold look, which stands out because long hair is so plain these days.
=)
I personally love to play with my hair, so I like it long.
The only picture above that I liked was the one in the middle.
i havent had long hair in three years! last year my hair went half way down my back and i cut it it abovemy shoulders!!! everyone was like YOUR HAIR LOOkS REALLY GREAT! but of course theres that one group of people who were like nice dike spike,
i was like ohh well i likemy hair its so much easier to take care of!
It all depends on the person and the way its styled.
I always wanted to do a pixie cut, but I'm too scared to do it.
the face structure is whats important.
not many people can pull off short hair
i like victoria beckhams
I recently cut my hair short (like Rihanna's newcut) & everyone I met really likes it.
Even my dad who thinks that long hair is beautiful & short hair is manly, likes it.
I get more attention with the short cut than I ever did the long hair.
Its also made me start dressing more "girly" and my confidence has risen...when my hair was long I would hide behind it & dress down. But now since I dont want to look like a boy, I dont rely only on my hair to make me look feminine.
Plus its just easier to do in the morning. haha.
I think that some girls can work it and still look feminine and beautiful. But I could never pull it off. It totally depends on face shape and structure
I think it mostly depends on the style and bone structure. I've seen some short styles that are stunning. I've been toying with the idea of shorter hair but I'm not sure it'd work for me. I also think that if a woman's naturally very feminine she can pull off making a short do look really pretty and natural... but I think mostly it's probably about having confidence. Long hair is easy for me because I feel like I don't need to do much to get ready for the day, and if I had shorter hair I feel like I'd probably spend more time putting on makeup in the morning than I do now! That chick who plays Alice in Twilight is the best example I can think of, I absolutely love her hair!
I think it depends on the shape of the face..
It shouldn't be for chubby people like me though D:
You know how Halle Berry used to wear her hair? That's how my hair is now. It really wasn't much of a choice. I had to cut it because it was falling out. I think it looks horrible on me but I've had people said it looks good on me. It all depends on the person i guess.
i personally would never cut my hair that short simply bc i have very curly hair and wouldn't want to have to straighten it everyday to make the haircut look nice. However, some women who have short haircuts look much more flattering with short cuts than when their hair long.
but yeah i must say, kudos on the bold move of chopping all that hair off! i hope you gave it to locks of love! =D
No I think short hair is edgy, and with the right facial structure people can rock it. I've cut my hair pretty short, not exactly pixie, but more like a bob. The very first time I cut off all my hair, my friends flipppppped out, but short hairs grown on me.
At this point I have mid length hair, and I plan to grow it out and then cut it again in the future
It takes a real confident woman to sport a short style! props to you! :)
I personally don't like super-short hair on women. I guess when I say super-short, I mean the type that makes them look like a guy. There are certain short styles that just don't look feminine. But then, I think there are others that people pull off really well. I like to keep my hair longer just because I feel like short hair makes my face look rounder.
i love short hair!
i think that the shortest it should be though is just under the ear.. anything shorter, like those pixie cuts, looks a little boyish
but i agree, its so much easier to take care of when it's short!
It depends on the facial structure as well as face shape.
I find that European girls have a stronger face and can handle short hair looks a bit better than Asian women can.
Generally, Asian women have softer and delicate features as well as a round face. Short hair wouldn't look too good with that, but it works for some.
I have an A-line bob as well, but the longer strands in the front don't make my face look like a bun.
I remember when I actually shaved my head last year (and Britney Spears did it the same week! TOTALLY stole my fire...)
Anyway, no one told me it looked bad. In fact, many people liked the short short hair. (I was only bald for maybe half a day - my hair grows really fast - my hair is at the middle of my back now.)
The only time someone "didn't" like it would be a guy - and even then... it was because they liked my longer hair better.
It's more of a sexual thing.
I would cut my hair that short!
Originally, I had long hair... but like how you said, it is harder to maintain and to dry/style/brush...etc etc. So i chopped off about 6 inches at the beginning of summer this year.
and I love my new hair!
Right now though, my hair's getting long again... It used to be above my shoulders and is now a little past my shoulders... therefore, I would be needing to get an another haircut real soon.
I think women who looks well with short hair are in general much prettier (<--actually, I heard this from a guy on T.V.) since short-haired people have less to work with. As in, you can't hide your face behind a curtain of fake extensions, curly, wavy hair, etc etc.
Short hair cuts looks more unique than the usual long hair, layered (maybe), with side bangs, and then for special occasions, tied-up or curled. (How boring is that?)
Face shape and overall body proportion I think are very important. If someone's overweight, then short hair just amplifies the fact (as does long, thin/straight hair, but in a different way, imo). If you have nice, delicate facial features and a good face shape (usually oval), along with a relatively thin OR petite body, I think it can be very cute in that it will show off your features even more. So maybe that's your case.
im totally thinking of doing it! my hair is so long now it drives me nuts and i wanna try something new. i think girls with short hair are prettiest because they dont need all that hair to cover up or enhance their face
I think it's all about what's inside.... short hair, long hair.. anyway the person wants to cut it. They themselves have to look at the mirror everyday and see it.
i hate short hair.. but its cuz it doesnt fit my face shape.. most girls look better w/ long hair.. but kudos to the ones who can pull the short hair look off. =]
No, definitely not.
e.g. retro short hair, and also, Audrey Harpbum's hair.
Face structure and the symmetry of body is very important to be able to carry off a short hair style confidently. Couple with tappered clothings looks great! For me, women with such hair, the main focus is their confidence.
I love staring at ladies with ultra short hair.
