Moles Are the New Black
This is a guest blog submitted by The_Prestigiator
Can someone please tell me why people are obsessed with the mole?
When I mean mole, I don't mean tiny ones appear after hours of sun-basking; I consider those "freckles." When I mean mole, I mean something huge and could exist as its own entity. It's usually very dark and 3-dimensional.
Blatantly noticeable moles, to be frank, annoy me. I understand it's superficial of me but whenever I spy a person with big moles or worse - moles that border between beauty mark and wart - I wonder why the individual hasn't paid a visit to a dermatologist.
I then turn on the telly or flip open a mag and page after page I always stumble upon a celebrity who has refused to part with his/her mole. When asked about it, they claim they love it and it makes them feel unique. Moreover, a good number of actors, singers and models have been able to embrace their mole and build memorable careers upon the glory of their distinguishable feature.
Here are some random examples of well-known celebs who sport trademark moles with pride:
I am not saying these stars are lacking in charm, looks or talent. In fact, in a few cases the moles add a little spice - that extra oomph, if you will. What I am saying is that huge moles bother me a tad. Perhaps I'm obsessed with symmetry and the mole takes away from that?
I do admit that for some reason the mole works better on women (sorry, De Niro). Eva Mendes' mole is CLEARLY far sexier than Rod Stewart's. I wonder how many people out there share similar sentiments with me.
What's your opinion on moles? Would you remove yours if you have/had one?

I have 3 very obvious moles on my face. The bad thing about moles is that as you get older they keep growing, along with pregnancy, age, all of it...they grow! I figure eventually I will have to get mine removed....can't have brown spaghetti noodles dangling! However, so far they work for me...allthough my papa used to always try to wipe the "chocolate" off my face.
I have two moles on my back, but they're just like big freckles, to be honest. And they're on my back. So nobody can really see them and they're not like, 3D, so I just leave them alone, hahaha
I dont think moles or facial flaws should be considered a "do or a dont". Its just a "well I was born with this thing on my face lets make the most of it."
I think they are ugly, personally, and they really bug me. Well, facial moles do anyway. Anywhere else, I dont care.
I've never heard of moles being stylish before.
I don't have any moles, just some freckles.
If I had them, I'd get them removed.
I had a mole on the back of my neck. Even though it wasn't noticeable my mom took me to the dermatologist to get it checked out, the old man didnt look at it for two sconds before he decided he was going to cut it off. Not freeze, CUT it off. So he laid me on the table, gave me a shot that made me all numb and loopy then went right along CUTTING this thing off my neck. It was probably one of the worst experinces ever haa because of the way he just like man-handled me. I don't know i would'nt go through that again just for asthetic purposes.
I have one by one of my eyebrows that I hate and I've been thinking recently of getting rid of it. But I also have one at one of the corners of my lips and I like that one, it is similar to C Crawfords but much lighter in color.
marilyn monroe's mole was actually drawn on... it was very tiny and many people who worked with her stated that they couldnt even see it but she did so she would make it darker and it would often move if you watched her movies or seen her photos
cindy crawford's mole made her famous but it suits her as for enrique inglesias (not sure how to spell it and too lazy to look it up) is a bit too big for me...
i met a really good looking guy before but his mole turned me off completely it was all i could look at (please his personality wasnt that great either...stuck up and arrogant)
i guess it depeneds on the size and if it has hair.. (ugh..) for some it fits for others its a bit nasty
i had one on my eyebrow. i hated it so much i cut it off.
now i have a scar there. its a great story.
i think moles are ugly. Some of them could also be skin cancer. I had a couple of moles on my legs, arms, and chest. they all turned out to be cancerous but one of them was 4th stage melanoma. moles are ugly but the scars they can leave are even worse.
there is an upside of moles...people with a lot of moles usually look about 10 years younger than their actual age. the medical community says it's something about the growth factors in the skin of people with a lot of moles being different from normal, if i remember the study correctly.
The girls can pull off the brown little dot; the big ones aren't attractively unique to me.
I have a couple moles but they aren't huge in any way shape or form. I actually had haver really given the beauty aspect of them any thought until I read this. I don't reallly think they detract from my looks.
I love your blog and every topic! Thanks so much<3
I have no moles, but huge ones just scare me.
I have a mole on my neck,up close to my jaw line. It's about a half inch in diameter BUT! it is flat and has no hairs. The second it starts growing hair... it is going bye bye!
marilyn's is drawn on
and it wasnt a mole. it was a beauty mark
I'm of a kind of mole-y persuasion, so my feelings are kind of mixed. On the one hand, I don't feel the need to have every single mole on my face eradicated--there's one at the top of my right eyebrow that's small and flesh-colored, and I don't mind it a bit, and two others on my right cheek that are flat and not very noticeable. I mean, you can see them, but they're not like, jumping out at people, LOL. One of them I do have to pluck occasionally, since it grows about 3 really wiry copper-colored hairs, but, that's a story for another day!
I have had a few removed, however, from the back of my neck. I was forever scraping them with my hairbrush, and quite frankly, it hurt like a bitch every time. So I had them removed, and now just have two very subtle scars. I have a few more I'd like to have removed--two on my belly, and a few tiny little flesh-colored skin tags on my neck. But it's certainly not something I'm obsessed with. When I get the opportunity, I'll go for it. Until then, they can just stay put.
As for moles on other people, I guess it's all a matter of degree. If we're talking about some small ones, no problem. Sometimes they're even cute (my sweetie has some that I think are adorable, actually). But if we're talking about something that should have its own zip code, um...yeah, it's time to see a doctor, LOL.
Sarah Jessica Parker's mole looks like a pimple in that photo.
I think the small, black dotted moles are cute. I personally thought it was always cute to have it in the region between the nose and upper lip.
But that's just me. :)
I have a few baby moles on my face, but I wouldn't remove them.
I have just that type of mole...the noticeable trademark mole..hahaha. I like it. I'm not getting it removed. Moles are known as "beauty marks." (No I'm not saying I'm pretty or anything.) I'm just comfortable with the mole. It's always been there. Why even think about it?
I have a mole above my left hip a little ways far from the bikini area... if only I was a model, now THAT is unique. lol
well it depends....Im Indian,a nd growing up, Ive seen a lot of indian women actually use a pencil to draw in a black mark somewhere on their face....its called a "beauty mark". In India, its considered beauty...and I think in a way, it does add something..
I hate moles. Freckles can be cute, though.
I think moles are as natural and beautiful as eyelashes and belly buttons. everyone is darling, and as long as they are comfortable with the things they have->awesome.
i`m not a big fan of 3-d moles. i have mole on my face but it`s on the outer part of my eyebrow. most people don`t notice it and neither do i. it doesn`t make my face look asymmetrical at all so i guess i am lucky.
eva mendes's mole is sexy. sometimes moles give character? to a face.
