Traditionally women's blazers are a business casual staple, but why not modify them for work and play? The best places I can think to wear a bold blazer is happy hour, date night, on a rooftop lounge, or while traveling.

1. HAPPY HOUR

This tangerine blazer is perfect for grabbing happy hour cocktails with friends, considering you might wind up twinning with your mixed drink. Tone down the intensity of a bright blazer by pairing it with a white top, shoes, and bag but make sure to add a pop of color, like the print on these relaxed fit pants that burst with blue, green, and a dash of tangerine! The pleated front and tapered hem allow for a bit of room without the slouch, while the zipper-front shoe has just the right amount of heel for a 5 o'clock hangout. A peplum top is free-flowing around the waist so you don't have to worry about all those half-priced drinks showing. The only thing missing is a straw fedora and a spritz of citrusy unisex cologne; it's happy hour - you may not be by the beach but you can sure act like you are.

2. DATE NIGHT

Whether it is a first date or a routine wine and dine with your hubby, dress to impress in an oversized printed blazer...say what? Anything oversized seems like the opposite of what to wear on a romantic date night - but bear with me. Cloak one over a high-waisted a-line skirt and a high-neck crop top that is still long enough to reach the skirt's waistband or, if you don't mind baring skin, leaves only a centimeter of midriff. However, this look is really about showing some leg and lengthening them in ankle-strap platform heels. Assuming your blazer is multi-colored, match your purse to the color that stands out most. Finally, polish the look with some primping. A deep burgundy lipstick goes on beautifully on any complexion and gives off some serious sex appeal. Do something elegant with your hair like a crown of braids, a big ballerina bun (aka sock bun), or a high pony with a headband if hair styling isn't your forte.

3. ROOFTOP LOUNGE

Not too many things say bold more than a black sequin blazer. I paired mine with a simple grey jumpsuit, green lace-up high-heel sandals, and a glitter clutch. This outfit works for a rooftop lounge because nighttime can get chilly, even during the summer months, so the blazer works as an upscale cardigan and, though light and loose, the jumpsuit gives you full leg coverage. Since both pieces are chic but very much neutral in color, the green and the glitter add an urban aesthetic, which is perfect for a hip, city locale. Sometimes the best accessory you can wear is your nail polish, especially if you are already wearing lots of shine – in this case sequins and glitter. Match your mani to complement brightly colored heels, which would otherwise seem a little off-balance.

4. TRAVEL

Whether you are en route to catch a plane, setting sail on a cruise ship, or hitting the highway for a road trip, arrive at your destination in style. A plaid blazer is a dressier yet still casual approach to just wearing a zip-up hoodie, which you would normally see me strutting around an airport with yoga leggings and a neck pillow as an accessory. Yes, you have to think practically when it comes to your travel wardrobe since comfort is essential, but it is possible to enjoy your journey and look good too. A plain tee and boyfriend jeans are simple garments but, together with the plaid, have a boyish edge which is fashionable nowadays. Time is of the element when getting from one place to the other so a pair of tennis shoes and a watch will come in handy when you check for time and realize you need to sprint to the gate. Hopefully you will be arriving somewhere sunny so keep some aviator shades handy. If you are anything like me you don't leave home for an extended period of time without your laptop, a book or magazines, my makeup bag, a notepad, and snacks of course. A backpack is your best solution for all that bulk.

Blazers are universal for almost all occasions. Don't limit yourself to these possibilities - where else would you wear a bold blazer?
