I have long been someone that prefers savory to sweet (I generally prefer a cheese plate for dessert) but after growing up spending the majority of my summer down the shore (yes, I am from New Jersey, no I am nothing like the Jersey Shore cast) I have an undying love of ice cream. It is the perfect dessert because there is a flavor for everybody to love; my favorite flavors are sweet, salty, crunchy and creamy. I have been known to eat multiple ice cream cones (or milkshakes) a day, especially in the summer, so when I found out about Ben & Jerry's Core Ice Cream I got more excited than anybody ever should about ice cream. Hitting stores this month, the new pints feature two flavors with cores of either jam, caramel or fudge.
The four varieties launching the core ice cream are Hazed & Confused, Peanut Butter Fudge, Salted Caramel and That's My Jam.
Hazed & Confused is part chocolate ice cream and part hazelnut ice cream with fudge chips surrounding a hazelnut fudge core.
Peanut Butter Fudge is chocolate and peanut butter ice creams, both with mini peanut butter cups and a peanut butter fudge core.
Salted Caramel is sweet ice cream with blonde brownie bits and a salted caramel core.
That's My Jam is raspberry fudge chip and chocolate ice creams with a raspberry core.
I am actually a little shocked nobody thought of this before, it seems like such a simple, yet genius way to reinvent the ice cream pint. It is the ultimate ice cream sandwich. My hardest decision since hearing the news of the new ice creams has been which one to get first. I love all things peanut butter, but that salty and sweet combination and blonde bits of the salted caramel version sounds very tempting. Knowing myself, I will probably not be able to make a decision and end up with all four flavors in my freezer before the month is over.
Which flavor will you try first?
