On my first day of high school, I rocked a plaid, pleated miniskirt, navy button down and lace-up oxford shoes. That miniskirt hasn't seen the light of day since. But this fall, the preppy schoolgirl look is making a comeback, and I will be the first to whip that pleated skirt back out! (Except maybe not the same one, as I'm sure I've gone up at least a couple sizes since I was 14).

The trend first caught my eye in the Tilda Swinton for Chanel photos. The stunning woman is featured wearing blazers, pea coats, brooches and a whole lot of plaid! I love the extravagance of the jewelry and warm navy and red colors reminiscent of typical fall fashion.

I was also transported to the early Gossip Girl days (which when you think about it was during my first year of high school. Hence, my obsession with plaid). The notorious Blair and Serena took the prepster look to a whole new level of overprivileged, trust fund baby, schoolgirl chic. I'm falling in love with the look all over again!

Jumping on the bandwagon, I decided to to go get my own pieces inspired by this trend. So naturally, I took my credit card to J. Crew, the queen of prep, and Banana Republic, its partner in crime.

J. Crew is incredibly supportive of the white collar sticking out of a sweater look, and these pieces make it possible! Banana Republic has some adorable cardigans, and this sweater blazer looks great with a pair of dark skinny jeans. And I can never get enough of tweed pieces, like this J. Crew topThe jewelry in these two stores are gorgeous and add a perfect amount of over-the-top prep to a simple outfit.

What do you think about the preppy schoolgirl trend, Lovelies?
