Summer went from a time in Junior High where I saw my friends every single day, to now, where I’m lucky to see them once or twice all summer. What happened? Well, jobs, moving, internships and schedules happen. So if you’re trying to keep in touch over the summer like me, you’re going to need to get a little crafty and creative.
1. Make plans to hang out a week or so in advance and stick to them.
Sometimes when a friend texts, it always seems to be at the last minute. Whether other plans were already made, or you’re just getting off work and all you want to do is lay down and relax, it’s hard to say no. Why not make plans a few days or a week in advance? That way you know to either request the day off, leave work a little early or just prepare yourself for some catch-up time.
2. Schedule a movie/magazine night.
Sometimes when schedules fill up, even a night out can get a little stressful. Why not keep it casual and low-key and invite your friends over for a movie or magazine night at home? If you’re all stressed out from work and/or money issues, this is the perfect inexpensive solution.
3. If the both of you have a commute to work, why not chat with them on speaker phone on the way home?
If you’re able to safely talk and drive, why not turn that rush hour time into friend-catch-up time? Not only will it seem to shorten your wait in traffic, but you’ll be able to catch up. Or if you both commute to the same city, make plans to meet at a coffee shop after work to wait out the rush hour traffic!
4. Buy tickets for a concert or movie in advance and make plans to go together.
If both of your schedules are crazy, make plans to go to a movie or concert together and schedule it in advance. That way you both know that you’ll be able to take off work if needed, and both of you can make sure to take care of any business or homework beforehand.
5. Schedule a pedicure or manicure together.
Especially if the both of you are busy, you’ll probably want to take some time to unwind. What better way to unwind than with some pampering time with your bestie? If you’re both a little poor, you can always bring the nail polish and foot soaks to each other’s houses.
