Probably one of the hardest things I have doing is keeping my finances in check. Especially in the summer. I mean, there’s so much more to do and see — how is a girl supposed to do it all?! If you are like me and always appreciate a helpful hint or two on how to save more and spend less then check out this post talking about 4 great ways to spend less this summer season! You (and your wallet) will be happy you looked!
1. Use your credit card reward points to pay for airfare.
The next time you are booking a vacation or weekend getaway, check to see that you can and or are using your credit card reward program or frequent traveler program. Many people overlook or simply forget about them but they really do come in handy!
2. Go on a staycation.
No matter where you live, there are always things to do around your city. If you live in a small town, venture out to the state capital or the nearest city to you. When you give yourself the chance to really experience your own neighborhood, the possibilities are endless on what you’ll encounter!
3. Host a potluck.
Instead of meeting your girlfriends at a restaurant or bar, host a potluck instead. Just think — no tip necessary! Choose a theme and have everyone bring something different. It’s a great way to enjoy everyone’s favorite recipes and catch up in an intimate and comfortable setting.
4. Host a movie night at home.
From the popcorn to the movie tickets, before you know it a night out to the movie theater can cost well over $50! Instead of going out to the movies, opt for a movie night at home. Pick a few flicks and make your own snacks which will be a heck of a lot healthier than anything you buy at the theaters. [via The Everygirl]

I do movie nights all the time! They’re fun and really simple. If you’re babysitting a few kids or have some of your own, making fake movie tickets is a great way to make the night more enjoyable! Something like this one on Etsy is super fun if you are having a movie night party! Staycations are also one of my favorite ways to spend time during the summer but for less. I live in Vancouver, BC and with being one of Canada’s biggest cities, there is always something new and exciting to do. Always Google your city on ‘things to do’ or check out Trip Advisor for help on choosing a hotel in your area.
