People magazine has just revealed their most beautiful woman in the world for 2013 and it's gotten everyone talking. Usually the decision of the winner makes sense, since there are an abundance of gorgeous women in Hollywood to choose from. So what's got everyone in a tizzy this time? Click the jump to find out!
People's choice for their "Most Beautiful Woman in the World" cover for their 2013 issue was revealed to be none other than Gwyneth Paltrow. She beat out fellow actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Amanda Seyfried for the title, stealing it from last year's winner, Beyonce. Whether you're a fan or not, it's understandable that some people are confused about the choice since she's much different than past winners of the coveted title. Gwyneth Paltrow is many things, including a wonderful actress and one of the best dressed women in Hollywood, but the most beautiful woman in the world? I'm not so sure about that.
On the cover, People praises Gwyneth's "timeless look" and while it may be true that she is aging quite gracefully, the reveal comes on the heels of Gwyneth, 40, being named as one of the most hated celebrities in Hollywood via a poll conducted by Star magazine. Despite revealing to People that when she's not perfectly dressed on the red carpet she's 'in jeans and a t-shirt' and doesn't really wear makeup, the public has given Gwyneth significant backlash against her rigorously expensive and bordering on arrogant lifestyle. [via Daily Mail UK] If you pick up her new book on healthy living, you'll notice that a single recipe will rack up a significant amount of money, an amount that those other than celebrities like Gwyn cannot afford. So while I appreciate People's attempt at making her seem relatable as an everyday mom and wife, it's not all that convincing.
When I think of someone deserving of this title, I think of past winners like Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez — striking women that are one of a kind. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't put Gwyneth in that same category. If it were me, I would have chosen someone like Mila Kunis or Adriana Lima because of how uniquely beautiful they are. A choice like that would have been a no-brainer. After the news was released, people took to Twitter and other social media to express how they really felt about the decision (the feedback wasn't very positive). You know what they say — beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Gwyneth did beat out a lot of beautiful women to land the number one spot, and for that, I congratulate her!
