Marc Jacobs’s big screen debut is upon us! I had heard about the designer’s part as a “porn baron” in the movie Disconnecta while back, and now the flick is finally hitting theaters.
Disconnect, directed by Henry Alex Rubin, is an absolutely horrifying (if the trailer is anything to go by) movie about creepy stuff happening online, including underage porn chat rooms — Jacobs’s character runs a house for runaway teens who work in Internet porn. Jacobs explains:
In the end, I’m really not a bad character. I’m actually the one who is protecting them in a way. I’ve taken them off the streets, and they don’t get harmed. They’re doing something that is virtual, though they are talking about sex. But you can look at it two ways. Harvey isn’t a pimp, having them meet up like street hookers or giving them drugs. He provided a home for the kids. But it is sleazy.
On a lighter note, it sounds like we can expect some very un-Marc-Jacobs-like wardrobe looks in the movie:
When they had the fittings for the movie, when they saw me, my design team was all in hysterics. I had these really tacky suburban disco shirts with crucifixes embroidered on them, and the worst-fitting dad jeans — I never wear jeans anyway — but these were just bad and acid washed with flannel zip jackets sewn to the side. And they put big silver rings on my fingers and earrings. So they just couldn’t stop laughing.
So can we expect to see the designer in any more movie roles? Probably not. “I enjoyed saying I did it and I enjoyed parts of doing it, but you know, it’s not ever been my dream to act or anything like that. It’s probably the last time I’ll ever do it,” Jacobs said.
Watch the trailer below! MJ pops up at about 1:50 and at the end. Disconnect opens on April 12. [via Fashionista]

looks like a huge waste of money.

I love that someone can get in a movie because he’s famous and has money, but people who have acting as their passion struggle to get into it. That’s the world though.

Don’t care for MJ. But Alexander Skarsgard OMG. I’m so happy he’s becoming more successful after TB.
Will netflix/torrent the movie when it hits DVD.
