I’m always worried that I’m not washing my face correctly because it seems that no matter what I do, I still seem to experience some problems that my cleansers claim to correct. Sure, there is no miracle beauty product, but just to make sure I was using the product correctly, I did a bit of research. Turns out that I was making a ton of very common face-washing mistakes. Check out these mistakes after the jump!
Here are some of the mistakes that I’ve been making all along:
Wash your hands before washing your face.
Washing your hands thoroughly with an anti-bacterial soap to make sure you’re not transferring the potential bacteria over to your face.
ALWAYS use lukewarm water.
Using hot and cold water to open and close your pores is a myth. Water that is too hot or cold will only irritate the skin.
Never go to sleep without a proper facial cleanse. (I must confess, I am guilty of doing this at least once a week.)
Skin pollutants left overnight can cause yeast build up that can result in redness and scaling. Not to mention that you just wake up feeling gross.
Apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp from washing.
Like applying lotion directly after showering, applying moisturizer while your face is damp will seal it in and keep your face soft instead of greasy.
Never apply cleanser without moistening your face with water first.
Most cleansers are too harsh and need to be diluted with water. Use one pump of product and create a lather with your fingertips and apply using a gentle, circular motion.
