Lucy Liu always goes for bold, fabulous outfits an almost every appearance; I mean her floral Golden Globes gown was absolutely gorgeous. The Elementary star followed her daring fashion streak when she appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in a colorful Mary Katrantzou.
Designer Katrantzou is famous for outlandish prints and designs that take a simple dress and make it look like an painting. The dress itself depicted a vibrant underwater scene with lots of color and texture. And I have to admit that I love the entire ensemble. The colors are so bight and fun, which is the perfect choice for a funny, upbeat talk show like Jimmy Fallon’s. The great thing about the outfit is that she did an excellent job accessorizing it. Bold colors and patterns can easily look over-the-top, especially when coupled with equally exaggerated accessories. But Lucy paired it with awesome nude pumps, simple jewelry, natural make up and her traditional windswept hair.
But I think it is the design structure I like the most. I am a sucker of asymmetrical and one-shoulder dresses, and this one just combines them both in a colorful mix. The asymmetrical design adds both style and flirtiness to the cocktail dress and helps the bold colors look even bolder. The entire ensemble just fits Lucy very well and the colors compliment her in great ways. This outfit is definitely a hit.
Lovelies, what do you think of Lucy Liu’s dress?

sorry I don’t think the dress fits her. And the color of shoes not match the dress……I am a bit disappointed.

I’m disappointed with her hair. I think she should have done a low, mess bun. It’s too much with her hair down and the one shoulder of the dress. I also am not a fan of the hem of the dress either. But I think she did really excellent with her jewelry, makeup and hair.

I like the concept, but I think the dress would be better for her if it were a bit more fitted considering she is really petite. The looseness just makes her look like she’s playing dress up. I like the shoes, hair and makeup though, she looks pretty and effortless. Some may say the shoes don’t match, but had she picked a color of shoe to match the dress, it takes the focus away from the dress.

I think it looks great when she’s sitting, but when she’s standing up the asymmetrical rouching is a bit unflattering, but considering she’s on a talk show and therefore a sit down interview she looks great.
I actually never understood the appeal of lucy liu but I get it now, she’s super pretty!

I have an irrational dislike for Lucy Liu. I guess it’s because people I’ve encountered say I look like her. Wtf?! She’s Chinese and I’m not. And I don’t look anything like her. Anyway, that’s an underwater scene dress? I thought the dress looked as if someone threw different paints on it.

@heart_leigh@xanga - yeah you look nothing like her but then again, all Asians look alike to most people.

The dress reminds me of a parrot.

Looks like she rolled around on a Van Gogh’s painting before coming on the show.

I like the dress, but not the shoes too much.
