We’ve been sharing our beauty routines on Lovelyish lately, and I have yet to share mine! You might have seen Annie or Rebecca‘s posts, if you haven’t you should totally check them out. I have never thought of myself as a routine person, but I do have one. It’s never planned but it is the same everyday. I have a strong internal clock.
As the editor for Lovelyish, I work from home. Which actually allows me to have some sort of personal schedule. When I was a hairdresser, it was a constant rush in the morning (and throughout the day). I can honestly say that since I started working from home and I am able to have a little time for myself, I feel more beautiful and at peace with life. It’s done wonders for my over-all well being. I wish I had realized how important it is to make a little time and have a routine a long time ago. It feels so good. So without further adieu, here is my morning routine.
8:45AM – I usually wake up about this time. The boyfriend leaves for work at 7 something, which leaves his amazing pillow available for me to snag for the next few minutes while I begrudgingly accept that it’s time to get up.
9:00AM – First thing’s first… coffee. I’ll admit it. I’m spoiled because I have an espresso machine. It is one of the best gifts I have ever gotten and I don’t think I could live without it at this point. First thing after I wake up, I bee-line to the kitchen to make myself a latte and pour myself giant glass of water. I think the water wakes me up more than the coffee sometimes, but I have to have both.
9:10AM – After I make my coffee, I’ll usually grab a banana (or avocado on toast with salt and pepper! Yum!) and I’ll head outside to my sun room and check out the day. I like to sit out there with my drink and check my email, check the weather, think about what I want to wear that day, eat and try to wake up a little.
9:30ishAM – Shower time! I like to take a quick shower in the morning when I’m not being super lazy or I didn’t the night before. I save all my time consuming shower duties (shaving, etc.) for night showers. I use Dr.Bronner’s tea tree in the shower along with a salux towel (best investment ever). The towel makes my skin super-duper soft. It is really so amazing. I highly recommend. Below is me, make up free and freshly showered.
This is what use on my face every morning regardless of if I shower or not. I recently simplified my skin care regimen to just these things. I toned my face with astringent for years and the second I switched to rose water I saw a huge difference. Also if you can afford a Clarisonic… get one.
9:45AM – I prep my hair. I know that sounds weird, but I’ll explain. Basically I towel dry, rub in a little oil and let it soak in for about a minute. Then I spray the crap out of it with Bumble & Bumble surf spray. I love this stuff because it thickens my hair ever so slightly and helps it keep what little wave I have.
Then I section it off into 4 parts and twist them up (yes, into those funny 90′s tiny buns). Once they are pinned, I blow dry my bangs (always) and lightly try to get a little dampness out of the rest.. but mostly my hair air dries.
10:00AM – This is usually the time I start work for the day, so I get started while letting my hair dry. I’ll start editing, catching up on my favorite blogs finding topics for posts. Any time between 10 and noon is usually when I do my make up. It just depends on the day. I don’t wear much, so it literally takes me 5 minutes to do it. Below are the products I use for just my normal everyday “try not to look dead” make up.
This is pretty much how it goes down. I use a little foundation on my chin and where ever I may have a blemish, and a little concealer under the eyes. Face make up is not my thing. I want to look like I have naturally pretty skin (even if i don’t), and caking on the foundation doesn’t do it for me. Other than that, I am a big believer in always defining your brows and finding a good cream blush.
I like to smell nice, so I always finish off be rolling a little of my Auric Blends perfume oil. I have the “Lovers Moon” scent. It’s described as ” Gardenia, rose and heliotrope provide sweet floral notes at the top, with sandalwood and musk as the base.” on their website. Also, a crucial purse staple. I’d love to try some of their other scents.
12:00PM – Finally, I put on some real clothes and I am fully ready for the day! At this point I dive deep into my work, editing and writing. I may head up to a coffee shop or to a friends place on some days, just to get out of the house or when it is particularly beautiful out. But mostly I work from my sun room, which is a pretty great place to work.
Yay! Ready to take on the day!
That’s it!! Hope you liked reading about my morning routine, feel free to ask any questions you may have about any of the products I use!
