When it comes to makeup in couture fashion, oftentimes eyes get all the creative attention while lips are left in the shadows. This year, famed makeup artist Pat McGrath decided it was time for lips to shine, literally, at Dior’s 2013 spring couture show.
To achieve this look, McGrath glued pink and red Swarovski crystals over similarly hued lip shades. The lips were complimented by clean skin, nude cheeks and eyes with a subtle winged liner.
I love this look because it is avant garde while somehow remaining very soft, pretty.
Lovelies, what do you think of this look? Would you wear it in real life?

I think the look is striking for a fashion show or photo shoot, but not very practical for real life wear. For one, I will probably make a mess out of the application and second, I love to eat so they may not stay on long!

i agree, they look great on a runway but obviously are a bit much for every day life. i’d maybe try to do something similar for an occasion like new years where you can go all out, but even then i think i’d stick with just glitter. i did a photoshoot once where lipgloss was applied and then regular glitter over that and it looked really cool.

it looks all nice and artistic in the first photo, but the three girls in that second photo are definitely not pulling it off at all – I guess it takes a lot of editing and photo skillz to make it look good in the mags, but i would definitely make fun of/seriously judge someone wearing that around in real life (hot drugged up vegas night clubs, dior fashion shows excluded)

and aren’t crystal studded lips like a year 2000 thing? not a 2013 thing?

Is the one in the middle a dude or a chick?

I imagine that, those pieces will easily fall off. If not, whatever holds them on the lips sounds like it would be bad for the skin. Or an I missing something?
In the first pic, it looks ~really~ cool. In the second pic with the three ladies, it looks like they’ve got crumbs on their lips. “I just ate a crumpet; don’t I look sexy???” . “No”.

Humm it depends. My speech is a bit off at times anyway this would make things worse for a while until you get used to it. Any health risks associated with this?

I love this idea, the top pic is lush. Great for posing, shit for talking and kissing and eating and drinking and singing and laughing and living, oh.

Close-ups seem flattering, but in the distance the models look like they’re lips are overly chapped. On a daily basis? No, I’ll stick to my Carmex. I do admire the photographic side of this idea, though.
