Anyone who watched the historical Presidential Inauguration in 2009 would remember Aretha Franklin’s famous church hat that she wore while performing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Even if you didn’t catch the legendary musician’s hat on TV, you probably saw it all over the internet as it became the center of internet memes and discussions. Well, during this year’s Inauguration, Katy Perry payed homage to Aretha’s bold hat by creating a mini replica!

Katy tweeted the image of the hat with the caption, “Big inauguration, tiny Aretha hat.” The pop superstar told People magazine that she “thought it would be fun to do a shout out to four years ago!” And she was not the only one parading with her Aretha homage; Katy’s new beau, John Mayer was spotted trying on the tiny hat:

The hat was a bold statement during President Obama’s first inauguration and Katy Perry loves bold statements, which is probably why she decided to pay homage to Aretha’s hat. It is definitely interesting to see the world’s biggest pop princess pay homage to one of the most legendary, remarkable female musicians in history.

Lovelies, what do you guys think of Katy’s tiny Aretha hat?
