Recently, it seems that the beauty secret revealed last year by burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese is now being utilized by many big celebrities and beauty bloggers. Though the concept sounds extremely unappealing to most of us, supposedly smoothies consisting primarily of various greens are definitely worth downing daily. One of the most well known variants of these smoothies is the Green Goddess smoothie. And I think there’s good reason to try it out– especially if you’re looking for clearer skin skin.
The exact recipe varies, but one of the most popular ones consists of the following, which should be blended:
-1 cup of baby spinach
-1 cup of cucumber chunks
-1/2 an avocado, halved, pitted, and peeled
-1 large kiwi, peeled and chopped
-1/2 a cup of frozen kefir or low-far vanilla frozen yogurt
-1/2 a cup of fresh orange or tangerine juice
-1/4 a cup of mint leaves
Though the recipe and taste may not be the most appealing, there are several benefits of green smoothies. According to green smoothie proponents, the blended mix will improve not only your skin, but also your nails and your hair by eliminating certain toxins. Additionally, many advocates say it can help jump start healthier eating; the green smoothies supposedly help get rid of those late night hunger waves and they should help with snacking urges as well. And, of course, the smoothies themselves are healthy!
Lovelies, what do you think? Have any of you tried adding green smoothies to your routine? What did you think of the results?

I tried making a green smoothie with a $20 blender and it was just not good. Not so much the flavor, but the texture. Reminded me of mucus, as gross as that sounds. Needless to.say, I couldn’t stomach it.

I LOVE green smoothies and fresh juices. I don’t do the juices as much as I would like due to financial restraints but the smoothies make me feel a little better because I’m not tossing so much food.
@mommyneedscrack@xanga - If you can get a better blender (Craigslist?) you might like them better. My $16 cheapy didn’t cut it but my husband bought me a Kitchenaid for Christmas and it’s a totally different thing!

I can’t stomach smoothies. Not even the sugar loaded JambaJuice kind. I do however have a juicer and i use that a lot. I make green juices all the time. I find that spinach has a nice flavor and celery is alright as well. Mint is good. If the taste of juiced greens is offputting to you I would suggest throwing some lemon in there as well. It has an overpowering taste without being too sour. I also love putting oranges, green apples, carrots and fresh ginger in there. You’ll never get a cold again!

I don’t like many drinks, especially thick ones, I think it’s the consistency. My housemate loves her smoothies and juices! And green ones it’s gross, always making me try them and I hate each one haha

I rather just eat that stuff as part of a meal than blend it in a blender. Just saying.

I’m gonna have to right this recipe down…The only thing I’m worried about is the taste.

green smoothies taste the best. I don’t even like regular smoothies as much anymore. If it doesn’t have kale, spinach or avocado…I’m a sad panda.

Green machine from Naked juice tastes so much better. These smoothes, the “green goddess” and also the lunch green shake from the 72 hr Dr Oz cleanse, are HORRIBLE. The consistency is gross, and the smell, I’ve never been able to make it through one of them without throwing up.
I drink a smoothie daily with kale, spinach, flaxseed, coconut oil and almond butter, but I make it with raspberries, banana, blue berries and black berries. Far.. far better on your stomach, nose, and mouth.

For a while, I did tons of these, only they were exclusively vegetables, fruit, and water- no dairy, no fruit juice, no sweetener. I liked them a lot, but after a while my stomach started hurting from them. I just recently found out that I have a sensitivity to spinach and bananas. :/
If you’re going to do them, consider a VitaMix or BlendTech, or some other high quality blender. It makes a difference.

too much effort, time and money. I’ll just stick to Jamba Juice’s green smoothies

yay for me. here where i live ‘green’ juice can be found at various restaurants and cafes made with a blend of local leafy green vegetable and pineapples. it tastes even better with a touch of salt.

I remember when I was on a veggie cleanse a few months ago, my skin looked AWESOME. Too bad it was super-expensive. I’d live like that all the time.
