Every year on January 1, I struggle, debate, and ultimately concede to creating some sort of list I tentatively refer to as my “New Year’s Resolutions.” Even now, that phrase is a hard one for me to swallow.

It’s not just the idea of making sweeping, often unfulfilled goals for the next year of my life that’s daunting and ridiculous, but also the weirdly intense focus on self-improvement that exists exclusively during the month of January that drives me insane. Of course, like everyone else, I want 2013 to be the year where I become a better, happier, smarter version of myself, but it’s hard to see how making a list of over-arching statements will help me to move in that direction. On the other hand, making no resolutions or life goals at all feels as though I’m somehow giving up and failing future me by not striving towards my potential excellence!

So this year, I decided to take a look at what some of my favorite celebrities came up with as their resolutions for 2013. After all, these are the people who have it all, or at least all the beauty, fame and money, so what more could they want? I found some celeb’s answers to be surprisingly touching, other’s predictably banal and short-sighted, and all of them a reminder that material and physical accomplishments in life don’t necessarily lead to happiness and fulfillment. Check out some celebrity resolutions for 2013 below and get inspired to make your own:

Jennifer Lawrence told Marie Claire South Africa, “My New Year’s resolution is to stand up for myself…I tried to find a balance in saying what I mean and still being nice. I can’t do it.”

Ryan Seacrest resolved to hone his dancing skills, saying, “I feel the pressure to be as good as [his girlfriend, Julianna Hough] is. It sounds like a joke, but this is a serious thing for me to accomplish next year.”

Blake Shelton half-jokingly said, “I need to work on being a less controversial Tweeter.” Although, 2.5 million followers seem to disagree.

In a video to fans Snooki said, ”I want to make money, I want to be a better person, and I feel like I try to accomplish that, but this year it’s a must.” She also said she wanted her newborn baby, Lorenzo, to be, “the happiest baby ever, be his best friend and the best mom he can ever have.” Sounds like she has her resolution to “stay positive” already taken care of.

Lauren Conrad wrote on her website, “1. Be more punctual! 2. Get organized. 3. Drink more water.” Three things we could all do with more of in our lives.

Wyclef Jean tweeted his resolution, ”Do not remain silence in the face of violence ever again. Each and every abuse is a scar on the World’s cheek.”

Neil Patrick Harris tweeted, “I’m looking forward to 2013. My New Year’s Resolution: underindulgence.”

Nicki Minaj told reporters at her New Year’s Eve party that her ultimate 2013 resolution is “not buying any more shoes.”

Gerard Butler told reporters, “My resolution is to embark on a lot of internal, more spiritual things, and explore that side of my life.”

And, finally, my personal favorite, comedian Rebel Wilson tweeted, “New Year’s Resolutions: 1. Finally create my Grinder profile 2. Get knighted 3. See the ocean/One Direction perform.”

What resolutions did you Lovelies make for 2013? Do any of you think they’re as silly as I do? Did any of these celebrity resolutions inspire you? What personal goals have you set for 2013 to increase your happiness and self-confidence?
