Everyone probably has an unhealthy obsession with one fashion designer, where all you do is dream about their designs and wish that you can one day just watch a runway show by them. Well, that designer for me is Elie Saab. Not only does he come from my home country, Lebanon, but he is also my favorite fashion designer whose dresses are just to die for. More and more celebrities have been seen in his dresses and he is definitely the best designer of 2012.

Saab is a self-trained designer from Beirut, Lebanon who became an overnight success with the dress worn by Halle Berry at the 2002 Oscar awards. She won her first Oscar (and gave a passionate speech) in Saab’s burgundy dress:


After this, Saab’s role in the fashion world grew dramatically as more of his shows hit the runways and he quickly became one of the top haute couture designers. His dresses have always been the right mix of high fashion and feminine wear; filled with pretty pastels, floral prints, sheer fabric and body-complementing pieces, his dresses have become a great choice for many celebs and even some royal family members. And 2012 was definitely filled with beautiful Saab dresses. Just look at Taylor Swift rocking a Saab dress at the Aria Awards:


Taylor is known for her soft, retro style, which makes this Elie Saab gown the perfect choice for our favorite pop star. It follows her theme of wearing white to many public appearances, but hugs her body beautifully and just leaves her looking elegant (which definitely reflects the maturity of her style this year.) Taylor was not the only celeb to adorn an all-white Elie Saab outfit; Emma Stone also wore a beaded dress for an Essence luncheon in February:


The dress definitely complemented one of this year’s biggest up-and-coming stars; Emma has always remained simple and sweet with her outfits for all public appearances, and this dress is no difference. The shape and pure white color leaves the dress looking perfect for a small event, but also just leaves her looking like an adorable princess and the beading adds some extra UMPH to her style.

But we couldn’t do Elie Saab justice without showing off some of the pretty pastels that have been such hit this year. Here is Zoe Saldana working a beautiful pale lavender dress at an issue party for Cosmopolitan for Latinas:


Not only does the color work beautifully for Zoe’s skin, but the dress is just so feminine and pretty that it was perfect for the event. Plus the sheer fabric on the top adds the right amount of sexiness, making it the perfect mix of cute and sexy for one of the hottest women out there. But no one totally went all out with a sexy, yet elegant Elie Saab dress than Chinese actress and fashion icon, Fan Bingbing, at the 2012 Cannes Movie Festival:

While she is completely unknown to almost all Americans, her appearance at the Cannes Festival was definitely memorable because of her jaw-dropping Saab dress. The sheer fabric coupled with the beading and champagne color made her a hit at the event and was definitely my favorite red carpet moment of 2012. Elie Saab proved again and again that his dresses were the best choice for many stars this year, with his elegant and feminine designs. We are all excited to see more of his work for 2013, especially on different celebs.
