The holiday season isn’t just about the holidays… It’s party season! One thing I love about living in Austin is the fact that everyone here celebrates everything here. If there isn’t some sort of festival, there is at least some kind of party going on. Not a day goes by during Christmas time where I don’t hear about some kind of epic holiday party. And even though Austin is known for being laid back (it’s not uncommon to walk into a nice restaurant and see someone in flip flops because there is little to no dress code anywhere here), the holidays are not the time to slack on your appearance.

If you’re anything like me, you have more than one holiday event on you schedule… and no idea what you’re going to wear to any of them. Clothing is one thing, but whats a great outfit without great hair? A good hairstyle will make all the difference. Try something new with your do… trust me, you’ll turn some heads. Here are 12 great photo tutorials and a few tips on how to achieve the perfect holiday hairstyle.

I suggest you try these out a few days ahead of time, so you can work out any problems you make have. You don’t want to waste a ton of time the day of trying to figure out how to do these. Sometimes it just takes a little practice.

In all my years as a hairstylist, I have done many up-dos for all kinds of occasions. Here are 2 really great tips for getting the most out of your style — trust me on this, these things will change your life in terms of stability and how long your style wears:

  1. Always do up-dos on second day hair. When your hair is super clean, it tends to be slick… Bobby pins will slide right out of it, but also, it just handles better if it’s a little dirty. For those of you who have super fine hair, and color it just so it has a little texture and actually does something… this is the same principal. I suggest washing your hair the night before, or even the morning of if its an evening party.
  2. Spray your bobby pins with hairspray before you use them. In addition to spraying the entire thing when you are finished. The bobbys just stay a whole lot better when you do this. Especially if you are doing a style the requires quite a few. You don’t want to be the girl who’s dancing at the party and with every movement bobby pins are shooting off everywhere, do you? I recommend L’oreal Elnet. It has amazing hold, but it is still workable. You want hair that holds, but still had movement… not a rock hard hair helmet.

Do these two things and your hair will look top notch. Plus, its a really good feeling to have a hairstyle you know is secure. you dont want want to be worrying about if your hair is going to stay up if you are trying to get your socialization/celebration on.

Do you think you’ll try any of these styles?
