Babies! They’re all over the place! It seems like a new A-list celebrity is announcing a pregnancy every other week, and even Kate Middleton was revealed to be preggers just yesterday. While I may not have any interest in kids at this point in my life, it’s still fun and interesting to hear what names are trending at any given time. And now the list of 2012′s most popular baby names has been released! Check out the top ten boy and girl names by clicking here!
Girls’ Names
- Sophia
- Emma
- Olivia
- Isabella
- Ava
- Lily
- Zoe
- Chloe
- Mia
- Madison
Boys’ Names
- Aiden
- Jackson
- Ethan
- Liam
- Mason
- Noah
- Lucas
- Jacob
- Jayden
- Jack
Some of these are hardly surprising. While they’re not bad names, I can’t even count how many Aidens, Jadens, Olivias and Avas I’ve encountered in the past few years. (Fun fact: I actually have younger cousins named Noah, Sophie, Olivia and Ava, which are all on the list in some form. And the first three are all from the same aunt and uncle!) I don’t know if I’ll ever even have kids, but I imagine naming them is pretty fun. However, parents should probably consult lists like this first if they want to pick unique monikers! What do you think of these names?

I wanted to name my future daughter Isabel for forever until Twilight came out. Now I refuse to because it’s a trend… because of that series. I love Twilight, but no way in hell am I doing that to my kid.

Almost all the girl names end in vowels. And the boys with m/n. Thats what grabbed me.

I never really liked the name Isabella. I like Ysabel, but that’s the closest. :p
And I don’t like Jackson as a first name either…
In my area there is a huge influx of girl names ending with -son, -syn, -lynMadison, Madalyn, Addisyn, Marilyn…just to name a few.
Personally I love the name Emily for a girl, it is cute and although it might be a bit common, it’s still pleasant. As for a boy, Jasper. I’ve read a few books which have a Jasper in them, and it sounds exactly like a boy’s name to me.

Not a fan of these names.

I will not be using any of these

I’ve always been fond of the name Aiden for my future son.

Ava/Eva, Lily, & Zoe are all beautiful names =) I would like to name my first girl Annelise/Anais or just Elise. I had a student named Annelise and I just thought it was a GORGEOUS name. I’m not too picky about boy names, but I’d like to give my first son the name Peter as middle name (after my grandfather).
A lot of my students have names on this list. I like a lot of them too. Not too weird but not totally conventional.

I want to name my son Luther. It’s the strongest male name I’ve ever heard. Georgette if I have a girl.

The 3 girl names I’ve kept locked in a notebook and in my heart for the last five years are officially on the top ten list but even worse, they’re on the top 4 list. Sophia, Olivia & Isabella have been my favorites for so long and now they’re becoming a trend
The good thing is that I have fantastic middle names for them. I’m happy that NONE of my favorite boy names are on there. I hope that in 3 or 4 years when I’m popping out these little suckers, my girls names will be below the top ten.

@sonnigenmai@xanga - I feel the same way about Luther!!! If I have children I’m naming the boy Luther and the girl Constance. They’ll at least be original haha

I hate this trend, I hate how everyone tries to be ‘different’ & ‘uncommon’. I know at least 2 or 3 of each of these names. In the end, your child is going to actually have a common name because everyone is trying so hard to be uncommon. I especially hate the whole Aiden, Jayden, Kaiden, Brayden trend. Yuck.

These names aren’t bad, but I can’t stand common names at all…soooo I probably would never name my children these.
My boyfriend and I have actually picked names out for our future kids. For the girl, Aurora S. and for the boy Lioness Octavious S.

Me and my fiance had picked Emma for our daughter who was born in 2010 wasn’t till after she was born we realized how popular it was! We have agreed that if we have another girl her name will be Callie hopefully it doesn’t become popular within the next 4-8 years!

My fiancee and I have come up with our baby names. Now, of course these can change if we have 2 boys, or 2 girls, instead of a boy and a girl… which is totally possible.
Boy: Jasper Sterling [with his last name of course]
Girl: Colette Evangeline [with his last name]
He picked the boy’s name, though I did veto Castor [which was his first choice] because I immediately thought of “castor oil” and I’m not doing that to my kid. XD;; I picked out the girl’s name, and we both came to a consensus about the names. :] I think they’re different and unusual, but I do love them so much. I can’t wait to start my family! ^^

@misskimberly - I know quite a few little Callie’s, its popular around my area. But if its not popular by you, I’d say go for it!

I like most of them. Although I do agree some are pretty common. I named my son Noah (but that was 4 years ago before it was really “popular.” lol) My daughter’s name is a bit more unique..Ilene. Other names I like not on the list would be:
Girls – Alice, Audrey, and Grace
Boys – Benjamin, David, and James

I want to name my child….. Tommy (female) or Marian (male).

My name picks are (that I have stuck with for a long time) :
For a girl – Alice (Inspired by Alice in Wonderland) or Eliza (Inspired by My Fair Lady)
For a boy – Chandler ( Yes, I know, But I can never find a boy name that I like, so that’s what I’m going with for now… Inspired by Friends)
Apparently I get my names from Movies and TV shows.
I also thought Truly would be a pretty name, like from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but then I thought it sounded to…. something .

We heard them often in France now.

and for boys

With my boyfriend, for a girl we have several ideas, like Beryl or Olivine. For a boy, I love Stellan (scandinavian),Sirius but it’s harder.

Can’t imagine why Liam became so popular.

I actually came on this post to see if the name I choose was on the top list. I was going to have to pick a new name.

My son is 3 1/2, and there are always tons of little girls his age named Sophia and Isabella/Bella and Ava. In one playgroup he was in, there were actually 3 sisters with those names- although Isabella went by “Izzie”, which I think is pretty cute. And always lots of Braydens and Jacks as well. I wouldn’t consider any names in the top 20 though, no matter how much I like them for my own kids. I just don’t want my kid to have to be one of 3 or 4 in his/her class with the same name. That being said- I think these are all pretty cute names on both lists. My kids are Jaime Gabriel (my mom pushed me to use Gabriel as his first name and I’m glad he didn’t- that name is pretty popular it seems like) and Beatriz Xochitl. Other names we considered were Matteo, Cruz, Lydia and Lucero. Neither name was one I had on my lists of names i liked before I got pregnant- but both seem to fit their names, so I’m happy.

@SUPletstake___surveys@xanga - Back when I was planning to have children I took what I loved about my name (very rare) and what I hated (no one can spell or pronounce it and half the time I end up writing it down as I say it so people can see the damn thing is actually phonetic) and decided…
To use old names… Names that everyone knows and no one uses. Also, my family has a *thing* for “A” names

Also, for a semi-but-not-really-popular name, one can always google the Top 1000 list and pick any name not in the top 200. A name is statistically unlikely to go from #745 to #5.
