Is it 2012 or 1996? Yesterday, American Idol alum Jordin Sparks snapped a photo of herself donning the classic swoop hairstyle made famous by the late R&B singer Aaliyah.
Along with the photo, Jordin tweeted, “#Stylepost Aaliyah inspired style & Veronica from Archie comics inspired color. Hi! Xoxo .”
However, the layered look and simple side-swiped ‘do aren’t the only commonalities the two singers share.
According to a February interview with the late Whitney Houston in Essence Magazine, the diva revealed that while adapting her “favorite childhood film,” Sparkle, production was stalled following the death of Aaliyah, who originally was cast as the star of the film.
In August 2012, eleven years after Aaliyah’s death and six months after Whitney’s, Sparkle debuted in theaters with Jordin in the titular role alongside the “I Will Always Love You” singer.
What do you think of Jordin’s homage, lovelies?

I like it. I don’t think the style is limited to mid- to late-90s. So sad about Aaliyah, she had so much potential. Her album, “One in a Million” was one of my high school faves. Yep. I reminded people of my age, but I don’t care. After all, it’s nothing but a number. See what I did there?
