Let's face it, coming across a Thanksgiving movie is like finding a needle in a haystack. From the moment trick or treaters stop off at their last house, a gust of wind ushers in the winter holiday season leaving Thanksgiving in the dust. While those '70s claymation films of Santa and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are indeed on the horizon, for those in the Thanksgiving spirit I just so happened to have the perfect Thanksgiving movie for you!
Before her relationship with Tom Cruise, a young Katie Holmes starred in a little film called, "Pieces of April." As the estranged daughter of an incredibly dysfunctional family, April Burns attempts to reconcile with them, particularly her mother with breast cancer, over a Thanksgiving meal.
The 2003 comedy-drama is quite a moving, motion picture. Patricia Clarkson, who you may recognize from her role as Olive Pendergast's mother in "Easy A,"gives a touching performance as the Burns family's ailing matriarch. Derek Luke, of "Antoine Fisher" fame, will make your heart pitter-patter as April's doting boyfriend Bobby, who is on a mission to find the perfect suit to impress April's family.
From watching April's ups and downs preparing her meal to the Burns' arduous voyage to April and Bobby's Lower East Side apartment, "Pieces of April" will make you appreciate the little things in life and, of course, your family.
