A new generation of divas are set to take the stage next month for the annual VH1 DIVAS concert. While the line up features R&B divas Kelly Rowland and Ciara, former Disney darlings Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, American Idol alum Jordin Sparks will see a familiar face as well. VH1 recently announced that the emcee for the night will be fellow American Idol star Adam Lambert!
After the success of last year's VH1 DIVAS: Celebrates Soul, which focused on the influence of soulful divas from Mary J. Blige to Amy Winehouse, the theme of this year's show will be dance music. Does that mean it's time for a "Party In The U.S.A.?" As is tradition, the newest divas will honor great divas of the past. Check out the next page to find out who this year's honorees will be!
Following the tragic losses of both Whitney Houston and Donna Summer earlier this year, the newest divas will pay homage to the two late icons. Both Whitney and Donna performed at VH1 DIVAS in previous years. Tearful moments are being predicted especially for Jordin Sparks. The pop star turned actress worked with Whitney on her last movie, Sparkle, which premiered in August.
In addition to being a fun-filled danceathon, the VH1 DIVAS concert is also a philanthropy event benefiting the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The non-profit organization seeks to keep music education programs alive in U.S. public schools. According to VH1.com, since VH1 Save The Music was founded, it has provided over $49.5 million in new musical instruments to 1,850 public schools.
VH1 DIVAS is set to premiere live on Sunday, December 16 at 9PM. Do you plan on tuning in, lovelies?
